Title: Bits and Pieces or All Together
Post by: mathew_harris on October 05, 2010, 11:41:43 AM
Hi All,

I'm struggling to sell Sweet Dreams and i need the money for other things.  I'm tempted to break her up and see if anyone wants the individual bits?  I've put a list below of what i have and how much i would be looking for each item, if i get enough people wanting enough bits then i will sell her this way instead.  Prices can be negotiated so email me if you are interested ([email protected]).

Carbon Mast (inc. Shrouds, Lowers, Uppers & Spreaders) - £150, C-Tech Boom - £150, Short Cabon Boom (too fit '97 Main Sail) - £60, '97 Bowsprit - £80 , Brand New Aardvark Bowsprit - £200, '05 Hydes Main £200, '05 Fyfes Jib - £150, '97 "Tall" Main (10m2) - £100, '97 Jib (2.5m2) - £75, Dagger Board - £50, Rudder Blade and Stock - £50, Combi Double Stacking Cherub Trailor - £400, RS 800 Kite - £50, Hull - £Offers

Or alternatively the whole lot for the bargain price of £1000.

I can get item measurements and photos on request, i just don't have the items to hand at the moment.

Many Thanks,

Matt

How long is the C-Tech Boom? and far from the gooseneck is the kicker fitting?

If you need to sell, no reserve on ebay will result in a buyer. The psychology of it (known as 'low ball') can result in good prices. You can always pull it with a few mins to go if you think the price is too low. I would not recommend breaking the whole thing up as what you get is numerous headaches instead of one.

And you only have to sell one bit and your options of a whole boat sale are gone.

And you're then left with the other stuff clogging up your life indefinitely...

The boom is 2.3 m long and the kicker take off is 61cm from the gooseneck, I can send you photos if you wish.

I'd love to sell the boat as a whole item but haven't had much interest, also unfortunately ebay have changed the way it works so you can no longer withdraw an item so the only way to avoid selling her for £50 is to either put in a high starting bid or place a reserve on the item... If anyone knows of someone after a cheap thrill boat then let them know and we'll keep the boat as one.

Would consider reasonable offers although theres a lot of boat for £1000 compared to what else you could get for the same price.

Unless something changes drastically soon, its looking like the boat is almost certainly going to be broken up.  If anyone is interested in any of the bits then please let me know and i'll provide pictures as soon as possible.

I know this is a shame but i can't keep waiting unfortunately.  Unless anyone knows of a good home and has £900 to spare?

To avoid selling for too low, get your mate to bid at the last minute!

Not that i'd have tried this (as its against ebay rules) but you could do this, end up selling the boat to your friends bid at well below your minimum valuation and ending up still with the boat and paying ebay £30 for the privalege of them 'selling' your boat.

This activity is a breach of trust, not to mention against ebay rules and illegal.

No more or less immoral than cancelling an auction with no reserve at the last minute.

But the point is that it would be a huge mistake to break the boat up.

I think you are right that one should put a reserve (not necessarily starting bid)  of what you would accept.

Unfortunately the boat has been placed on ebay 4 or 5 times with not much interest.  I tried a combination of using either a high starting bid, then a reserve and finally used buy it now / best offer but it didn't seem to change much.  I'm still open to someone buying the boat as a whole it's just had very little genuine interest in the last 18 months.

Would someone mind placing the information from the first post into the parts section of the website for me?  As I'm no longer a class association member I can't do this myself.

Thanks

Just a quick update, Sweet Dreams has now gone to a new owner called Leigh who is based in Nottinghamshire.  He's planning on painting her over the winter and getting out in the new year for some good blasting fun.

Just wanted to say thank you very much to everyone who has helped me out with various bits and pieces over the last few years, i've learnt a lot and had tons of fun with what is a very friendly class association.

Glad to hear you have found her a good home. If it was possible to pass on the contact details of the new owner, we'd love to hear the next chapter in the SD's story (PM?).

Good luck with the next project and do keep in touch.
