Friends, I'm going mad in Holland. We have a new boat and need some time in it. If I hypothertically had a week's holdiay in Jan/Feb*, a budget for a ferry ticket and some petrol**. Is there anywhere I can drive to and find:

1) Warmish water
2) A reservoir/club providing saftey cover thorugh the week.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
* Sorry for the abreviation, can't spell either of those.
**Am currnently clocking 60+ hour weeks on the timesheet (but working many more)

Roland,

Mar Menor, Murcia, Spain.
Inland sea/lagoon about six times the size of Portland Harbour. Ticks the warm and safe (in terms of being enclosed) boxes. Jan/Feb will be similar warmth to British summer. Warm enough to swim there last week. Katie and I had 2 sails in an RS Q'Ba (nearly beat foiling Moths around the course by dead running downwind!). Polish ladies windsurf team were there training rather than the Baltic, cant blame them as we were at the Baltic at the end of the week which was a tad colder! See www.carmurcia.es (http://www.carmurcia.es)

Probably no rescue cover, unless you liase with a time that Alan of ProVela is there www.pro-vela.com/en/ (http://www.pro-vela.com/en/)

Quality self catering appartment 20mins away with generous 'mates rates' discount to Cherub class members here;

Don't forget Hourtin!

Much nearer. Less warm, but it is the south of france, so not too bad.

Just had something funny happen, I had a bottle of 7up outside my window for the past couple of hours to cool down it is about -15 outside.
When I brought it in it was totally clear and liquid, and I thought I had timed it right, cold but not frozen. However when I opened it and the pressure inside dropped it froze into a kind of slush puppy mixture. I only noticed when I went to drink and nothing came out.

And did it warm up as it froze? (not above freezing, obv)

It possibly did, impossible to tell without a thermometer, the ice melted quite quickly though

32 or 33 max this week, 21 or so at night.  Great that it is cooling down.  Picture of some moths having fun! :D

Doug,
That is aweful. I am so sorry for you....but let me know if you need crew!

We have 63 in Lym (kn wind gust at Hurst, not 'C) and the high tide flooded the dinghy park. Made me wonder what could be made to work in such wind. Even with small sail & rig the windage on a hull becomes an issue. I guess tiny windsurf board is one answer. A hull would almost need a small keel to stop it blowing away, or T foil downwards....

Will hopefully get out for the LTSC Charity Pursuit tomorrow if there is a lull in the storm.

Peter

Peter,
Jonny is back for a few days and mentioned the weather.  The downside to weather here is the summer which is so hot!  I was in Riyadh and it got to 52oC.  Also if you live out here for a few years you yearn for a cloudy day and rain!

Just buying another house in Lymington and planning our return!
