Title: Wiki Down
Post by: Phil Alderson on July 22, 2009, 09:06:14 AM
As some of you may have noticed the Wiki part of the website has stopped working, the folder containing all the files has disappeared over night.  I have contacted the host to see if they can restore a backup, Otherwise I will start to rebuild it this evening.

It seems that all the folders containing the wiki and also the backup test version were full of viruses so to protect everything elso on the server the web host deleted the folders. it looks like someone has found a valnerability in the wiki software that has let them upload the malicious files.

I need to reinstall the wiki software and upload the pages from the last offline backup that I did. We will have lost the last few months of updates to the wiki.

Balls. Thats not good, but at the same time, not a complete disaster. I guess we will just have to see what is restored in the backup, and then it will take time to re-build any dead links which do not exist yet! I will sort out re-doing the nationals page asap as I think that is the probably the most important at this moment in time.

I've not got the net at home, but will try and do my best in 'work' time where possible.

Hi Tim,

I have uploaded a new front page with a bit about the nationals and a link to the paypal entry. It also links to the forum.

I will try and get the rest sorted as soon as possible but it is likely to be the weekend before I can put any time on it.

That looks great Phil, I think that it is clear that the website is down but most of the traffic has been through the forum anyway of late so that is fine for now.

Status update, the quick way of uploading a working version from my computer did not work so I have to set the whole thing up from scratch. This is going to take a bit of time, unfortunatly I am extremely buisy at the moment.

We have also lost all the recent documents and changes, so one thing people could do if they have some spare time is to try and search out the more recent news articles and wiki pages (e.g. the BMG ones) using the cashed versions on google and copy the text, they will still need to be formated and the links rebuilt but saving the text would be a good start.

Status Update:

The login to the wiki is now working again, it is the same user name and password as you use to login to the forum.

It is now possible to create and edit the pages on the wiki and upload pictures, however the script that renames your pictures when you upload them is not working so can I ask everyone who is uploading pictures to please name them sailno-yyyymmdd.jpg

if you are adding more than one picture of a boat taken the same day you can add a,b,c at the end e.g.

2686-200907903a.jpg
2686-200907903b.jpg
2686-200907903c.jpg

If it is a picture of several boats you can put
fleet-yyyymmdd.jpg

This is necessary to or the photo's will become impossible to keep organized. If people are uploading pictures with incorrect file names I will disable the photo upload till I can get the script working again.
