Title: Cherubs are actually awesome (but easier to sail then they look)
Post by: john_hamilton on July 11, 2009, 09:36:31 PM
...moderatly well

Ok, i took cheese out for the first time today (havent been able till now due to gcse's etc) with a slightly novice crew who normally sailes lasers. It was a force 5 and we didnt capsize once!!! The spinnaker is truly a weapon!!!! Then later i took her sailing single-handed in lighter winds, its easier than you think!!! I love cherubs :)
On a less hyper note: any yelpfull tips from the cherub community on teaching a novice to national standard tor the nationals (3weeks free every day)
Cheers
John

Hi John

Glad it went well, if it's really windy at the nationals I am going to regret not having Cheese. Crew wise, rather than just blasting around practice lots of tacks and gybes and saling around a mock mini race course.

Well done for not tipping Cheese in!

Lots of sailing will really help.

Set your timer to 1 min repeat, and every time it beeps tack, gybe, hoist or drop.

Do five or so tacks, then hoist, then five or so gybes, then drop. And repeat.

After a few hours of that you'll be ready for a beach stop. After 21 days of that and you'll not be having any boat handling problems.

We'll be down at Babbacombe from the preceding saturday. A few days practice in the venue can really help too.

Will, would you be able to offer some tips on the preceeding days?
