That is great, do you have any more details what design is it?

I have got plans, etc and it will be a Paterson 8!  So racks, etc and setup for as big a jib as possible.

As I make progress I will take some pics etc and load them on the other thread.

I am looking forward to support via the forum!

Thanks

Hi Doug,

Great to hear you are building. What are you sailing at the moment? It's pretty amazing that Cherubby goodness is spreading as far as Dubai.

Best,

Will

Hi Doug,

new boat, cool.... didn't know Andy had been at the drawing board again! Nice one. Is it an iteration of the P7? or new concept?

Hi Doug,

As one of the class currently building I would suggest looking at My thread and those of Born Slippy's for our new Elways.

I have recently noticed with the wram temperatures we've had here that the epoxy cures quite fast. In dubia you may have to keep the resin cooler to avoid it exotherming.  otherwise laminating in an air conditioned space would be ideal.

Look forward to seeing the photos and news of your build as it progresses.  Please ask questions. you will get lots of advice.

Tropical hardeners will help also.

I've done a version of the P7 with extended topsides for rack tube arrangement, and went and revived my designs for the P8 from a while ago.
It's based on the P7 - same sort of flat bottom, vertical topsides shape, but with a longer bow, wide point of the chines moved aft, and a wider transom.
So in fact similar to the E5 in plan view,  more rocker in elevation, more boxy/less V fwd.

Thanks Andy. It'll be interesting to see how she looks. Got any CAD images?

Hi, good to see the interest.  I must admit to having given up dinghy sailing in the UK a few years ago...it was a winter season in Poole that did it.  Have been bigger boat sailing in UK and more recently in Dubai.  My son is Moth sailing here and I thought I might as well get out on the water .  I am hoping there will be another build other than that it will be handicap racing.
Thanks
Doug

doug: Best of luck with your build. There are so many useful people on this forum. You have all the advice you will ever need! I would love to start a new build myself, but after sailing Dangerous Beans last weekend I now know I have a lot to learn before moving to an 05' rules boat. I wish you luck and hope you will post a good write up as your build progresses.

Thanks.  I saw the amount of resource on the web and the forum and the obvious performance of the boat so an easy decsion to make!  Also winds here tend to be 10-14knts with warm water through the whole year (maybe a 3mm shortie through the winter).  I will keep posting.

MK, It would be good to meet up....is it possible you can come through Dubai?  (I travel quite a bit but should be around for some of July.)  Good luck in Saudi...I was living there before coming here.  Little fun to be had!
