What : UK Cherub Open Meeting
When : 20th 21st June 09
Where : Isle of Sheppey Sailing Club
-
Will be there on the Sunday (wedding'ed out for day 1)
The race officer is keen to know if we will be happy sharing the windward and leward mark with the Ospreys, they will be tri/sausage. It's that or lay a further mark at each end of the course. I'm happy to share, any violent objections?
-
On Sat evening the club have got a band and a BBQ , this is included in the price. If anyone needs accomodation there is space at mine.
-
We'll be at this one, I have all the appropriate permission slips and everything. I have no objection to share with the Ospreys, if they buy me a beer, its not asif they're big and heavy or run dead downwind is it ?
Thanks for the space offer Simon, but just so I know and I am sure others will ask... whats the tent situ like there ?
-
i shall be making an appearance... ;D
to echo Graham, whats the situ camping wise, if not may well have to blag me some floor space?
-
Notice of Race attached.
I understand camping is available at Bartons Point (http://www.bartonspoint.com/pageID_4577626.html)
-
Loco and Born Slippy are currently filling the boatpark.
So far I'm guessing the roll call as:
Born Slippy (Sunday only)
Loco
Antidotre
Riot Van
Dan's boat
<Shiny Beast (aiming for 2 event wins in a row)>
?Ross
I'm guessing I've missed a couple.
-
Shiny Beast too!
-
Sailed at Sheppey yesterday ,not much breeze but nice and warm. If anyone else is coming along this weekend ,a post here would be great as the club would like some idea on numbers. Thanks.
-
Shiny will be there!
We are coming up on Friday night.
Will there be room for a tent at the club or can we have a place to lay our heads?
We will be leaving Bournemouth at 6PM, I am not sure how long it will take us.
-
Dave - Simon Jones has just texted me asking for your phone number. Good news for kippability (possibly!)
-
seeing as its been let out that i've now got suicide blonde, i will be at sheppy with her but only for the saturday. and looking forward to it!
-
It was a great event with some very close racing.
A lovely club with good sailing close to London.
It is a shame with so many boats in the local area that we can't get a better turn out.
Still it does add support to the idea that Nationals should be spread around England, Scotland and Wales.
After all if we don't get many boats in the densist Cheruby area in the country it suggests locality does not improve turn out.
Though I doubt Largo will get a better turn out for there event a weekend drive is a lot harder to manage than the same drive for a nationals.

It is a shame with so many boats in the local area that we can't get a better turn out.
I don't know why, but it always seems v difficult to get Cherubs to turn out to an event from the Thames Estuary northwards on the East coast of the UK...
-
I think the turnout is equal to the best we've had this year. Also historically it is a goodly number. The racing was close enough anyway!
-
There are some great photos available to look at from the weekend. visit www.iossc.org.uk click on the cherub open then click on the link at the bottom of the page. ( Graham and Eddie check out 195 onwards)
I have spoken to Chris from IoSSC tonight and he has asked me to thank all that came along, and has invited us back next year.
P.S. Dave you did leave your towels and shoes at mine Doh!
-
Excellent photos thanks for arranging that Simon and for Peter taking them.
I'd return the compliment to IoSSC, its the first time I have been there and I was very impressed. Nothing wrong with the racing, nothing wrong with the launching or other facilities, great barbie, great breakfast, great bar and very friendly club members and atmosphere. It would get my vote for a return visit anytime.
-
I agree what a great club!
The pics look good though the close ups of me were a mistake.
Simon, could you bring them to Stokes Bay?
-
Sorry Dave we can't make Stokes , I could give them to Will to pass on though.
-
I do not think they are going to Stokes but if they are that would be great.
The next one is Lymington
-
I think I'll be at Stokes. Boatless, alone, and only for one day.
This means I can do clobber delivery duties.
-
AAAAHHHH poor Will!
You sound like a lost puppy dog.
Of course you can sail our boat.
Regarding turnout:
I agree the racing was close and as I said I enjoyed the event.
The thing is we achieved six at Weston but Sheppey was more of 4 and two halves.
By the way I think most respect should be given to the crews making up the halves as travelling just for one day is clearly more effort.
BUT (I am sure you saw that one coming) Surely we should be disappointed with such a small turn out in a Cherub strong hold. If we are ever going to grow.
