Title: Stainless steel rod

Does anybody need any stainless steel rod for rudder pins?

I've found 8mm stuff 30cm long for £17 plus postage. I've not worked out p&p, but the more I order the cheaper it will be.

I personally am doing fine for rudder pins, I have two, plus the one you gave me on Monday which is going to Ross! But I need a 20cm piece of 4mm rod for something else. I've found a supplier, but postage for one item is £10 so was wondering if anyone wanted to share?

we have a friend through frampton who works with stainless.I got enough rod from him to do two rudder pins for £5.

I aim going to ask him if he can make up a few rudder pins and the shorter pins for the gantry pivots.

He should also be able to provide me with sufficient small bits of scrap plate to make shroud plates etc.

Remember when buying stainless to check the grade (use 316A4 or higher).

The lower strength stuff really does not stand a chance in 8mm format when tasked with keeping a Cheub T-foil in place.

I bought the aluminium box sections and tubing from metals 4U to make E-number's launching trolley.  I think they gave good service. 

You can buy in lengths at multiples of 1m.  Without buying a lot of matierial i found these to be good value for money.  I used the thicker SWG box section because I was bolting the sections together rather than welding.  if making several trolley I could have ecconomised a little with the lengths.

I would also recommend metal supermarkets. Bit expensive but very good service. They supplied the metal for stanleys prodder fittings.

I have also finally solved the rudder problem. I took the pintle off and tapped an M8 thread down it then to stop it coming off I can put a stainless nylock nut on it. Hopefully this will stop Stanleys usual trick of parting company with its rudder at Mach 10.
