So I can confirm the dates for this years Thornbury event.
30&31st May 2009
Same format as last year, with a Caelidh for the evening entertainment. Lets try and get more than the 6 Cherubs we had last year. Its even possible we could have more than one Ellway 5 in attendance !
I expect prices to be the same as last year. Start times 11:20 on the Sat and 12:30 on Sun.

I have listed this on our events page as a "sub-event". This means it is an event people are thinking of sailing, but not necessarily a “Cherub Open”.
I missed it last year, due to being in a Maasai village in Tanzania called Esilalei (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Esilalei), so I'm really looking forward to it this year.

I can make this one.
Just got to finish the boat.
If the weather's fine we will be camping at the club and enjoing the social. if it's not so good we may retreat to a nice warm bed.
very friendly club no rocks to sail into but quite a bit of mud.

Madam is on call, so I am available to sail with other people.

Ok Thornbury is the week after the Weston open.
I have no idea what the weather is going to do yet but look forward to getting some good sailing in.
Please join us
We will be joined by Atum and possibly Shiny.
You are welcome to come up on Friday and see E-Numbers in the garage at some point during the weekend.
The social at the club looks good too and well worth the stay as we found last year.
-
Will there be somewhere to stay if we go up on Friday night?
Camping at Thornbury will be fine.
-
Yes camping on Friday at the club will be fine. There are a few people camping for the week and we will be there putting up the marquee from about 6.00. If the gate is locked you may need to walk down to get someone to open it, but i'll try to get the gate left unlocked at least early on Fri evening.

Many thanks go to Atum and Shiny for joining us at our home club event.
with hot sunshine both days and about 10 knots saturday and 15 knots on Sunday it was one of the best sails to be had.
Everyone coped with the strong tides which gave for short beats and long runs in the first race each day and longer beats and short runs in the second races. Wind against strong tides causing some standing waves made for difficult tacking and gybing. Due to the wind direction a simple windward course could not be set on the fixed marks . The result was a reaching start and two beats. The crews complained about all the hoists and drops and were absolutly exhausted by the end. The sailing became more difficult on Sunday when a 26 strong laser fleet joined in for their open. At times we had to play dodge the laser when short tacking up the shore crossing their reach or on the start line. With more wind and a 2 sail reach on the course ithe sailing was a bit more demanding.
Team Atum bom; Will and Tim won day 1's racing while Paul and Will won day two's racing,
team Slippery ; Phil and Sarah recently unused to anything more than a light breeze came 5th and day 1 and 4th on day two.
Team shiny; Problems with a new spinnaker halyard not making friends with the cleat meant that Dave and Lara could only finish about 7th on day 1. They sailed better on day two after an overnight fix.
As always the hospitality was excellent. The cheap pleantiful food, well stocked bar and evening ceildhi was enjoyed by all. There is some video evidence somewhere.
There was also talk that the event could be put into the main series next year!

It is true Shiny didn't like her new rope. It is also true that the courses were best described as challenging.
To be honest the sailing was of very little importants.
Thornbury is clearly the best club I have sailed at for a long time.
I think by the end of one weekend I had met at least half the club.
We will be back next year and if we feel adventurous I'll bring the boat too.
