What? UK Cherub Open Meeting
When? Saturday 6th and Sunday 7th June 2009
Where? Weymouth & Portland National Sailing Academy
-
Notice of Race and the course are attached.
Online entry is now available at http://www.wpnsa.org.uk/regattaentry/index.php (http://www.wpnsa.org.uk/regattaentry/index.php)
Please note that there is an online discount for boats entering before 27th May.
-
I think that this could be an excellent event to showcase the Cherub against the other classes. Potentially any Buzz, Iso or 4k sailors could be shown 'the light' and be attracted to the ways of the UK Cherub!
-
Looking at that link I am going to join strawberry and decide not to class a cherub as a skiff ;D
In additon I'm tempted to offer to sponsor a boat to opt to use the crane - for £20 it would be great to watch. Unfortunatly, I am not going to be able to though, we are booked out for this one. Hayley is learning how to drive ribs scarrily fast and without her in the boat I'll never work out when the appropriate time to head throught he finish line is. Happy counting/squinting at the comittee boat...
-
If anyone would like a crew I will be available as I will be on holiday in Portland that week. Would love to take Stanley but the road base is so shot its illegal!
-
Is this us just joining in the regatta that is usually canceled at the last minute or is this proper cherub event with class starts etc?
-
This is a proper event, we get our own starts on a windward leeward course rather than what has happened in previous years :)
-
I'd love to sail at this event as well but I don't think I'll be ready by then. Available as crew.
-
proper event sounds good
anywhere to stay there?
our car has shrunk this year and is no longer hotel peugeot more shoe box peugeot
-
I have a friend who works for Sail Laser who has offered me floor space... I'll see if I can get that extended to more of an open invitation! ;)
-
If no one wants a crew could I possibly get a sail after racing? Im quite keen to get a feel for the more modern boats. I have sailed on Dangerous Beans and would quite like something to compare it to.
-
If conditions are suitable. If mrsdrlee is as ruined as I was after crewing all day yesterday, then I'm sure she won't mind.
I bicycled v slowly to work today. My body doesn't work!
-
How was the open? We had some excellent breeze all weekend in Devon combined with lots of sun. Was most jealous!
I am sure that Badgers will be up for a sail after racing if the weather is good.
-
It is starting to look a bit unlikely that we will make this: for those who don't already know our valiant little van well and truely went to Vanhalla on the way back from Weston. Having overheated quite spectacularly on the way to the event, it was successfully rescusitated with ditchwater (complete with freshwater shrimps). Sadely, we ommitted to re-fill the radiator before the return jurney and it blew the head gasket somewhere south of Fleet.
RIP little van
-
Was that accidently on purpose?
Sorry to here you can't make it.
Who else is going?
Stu have you found anywhere windy enough for you yet?
-
Ross and I are hoping to be at this one. But there's a big but...
Don't forget that if you are going it is very important to register on the website first!
It's too early to tell with the forecast, try me again on thursday!
-
What is the benefit of registering on the website before we turn up? If registration was done before May27th then there was a discount, but what do I gain from registering now rather than when I turn up?
-
My apologies to those that heard me when I said we'd be there, seems I was acting prematurely and without checking with the necessary authorities... apparently we cant make it..
-
Tut tut Graham! I always get pre authorisation... never assume anything! ;)
Hopefully see you soon anyway!
-
Team Beans are now entered and paid up. I opted out of the evening social doo though
having been dissapointed by what £12.50 gets you at WPNSA before.... Curry anyone??
-
The academy tell me that they hope to have no registration on the morning of the event. And if they do have to register anyone they'll be clobbered with a ridiculous late entry fee!
I reccomend not paying for the evening dinner, and second Tom's proposal of curry.
-
As usual the accademy is more hastle than it is worth!
I just tried to enter but there site has not herd of Maestro card.
We will try and phone tomorrow but what a contrast from last week!
I am deffinately not paying any late charge.
-
Dave, with a Maestro card you need to use the purple button that is actually a "Solo" logo.
I agree, it's hardly clear.
But the most important thing is the sailing!
-
I am (very) excited to be joining this event at the weekend. Can't wait!
-
Oh right, ok. They don't seem to have published these rules about late payment very well so seems a bit harsh!
Can we have a show of hands as to who is coming... Badgers, Beans, Shiny and Antidote as far as I can see it. Anyone else though, please do come as the sailing in Weymouth really is amazing!
-
Dan's Boat may or may not be there, still all up in the air.
I'll post here soon as I know.
-
Isn't Aunty Dott not coming because they killed the car!
Stu I tried purple buttons.
We went for the old fashioned way and used the dog and bone
-
I'm not going due to a lack of a sea worthy vessel.
-
Well... that is the first time I have ever added my event entry form to an online 'basket'! Let's hope this doesn't catch on!
See you all there in't mornin'
-
Stu
I'll Say it just because everyone is thinking it!
SURELY THAT HASNEVER STOPPED YOU BEFORE!
-
So how did it go?
-
Saturday was a terrifying cherub destruction darby, but with insane 25+Knt breeze and a savage two sail reach in Beans, Sunday was light and shite. Unfortunately we didnt finish a single race. It was a fun weekend though.
-
Please can someone volunteer to write a report of the event?
-
There isn't really much to report so not sure if it is worth it really! One snapped mast, one broken mainsail and some good chilli eating!
-
Saturday
Clearly the best sail was by Gav and Tim who nearly did an entire lap before some very inpresive de powering techniques put an end to that.
Beans used the main for target practice while shiny pottered out had a look around and came home.
The 18's were impressive and the Chillies at Mat's was good. Thanks Tim!
winds 25knts plus.
Sunday
Light and flukey winds ment the last two standing Started the first race int the crouched position.
Shiny took an early lead before Beans decided that if your name isn't Kiddle you were not welcome on the foredeck. OOps! With the wind shifting with massive holes Beans decided that the sure was the best place to be.
Shiny did just enough to win the event then followed suit.
The pub meal was very good with nice views of Portland.

Hydes have a pattern for smaller sails you know? But then again the modern fat head sails are easier to depower aren't they? ;)
