Title: 2018 Open meeting 3 Isle of Sheppey 26/27 May
Post by: simon_jones on May 04, 2018, 06:49:29 AM
The NOR has been posted on IOSSC website. The Saturday evenings entertainment has a 1980’s theme. For those to young to remember ask your parents.

I should sack myself as events organiser - another one we can't make as we will be in Carnac with the 200

I shall be sailing with my twin!

Really looking forward to Sheppey, always a brilliant event even though we usually only sail one day!

Anyone available, please?

Saturday:
15+knots. Twin wiring/depowering

Shinys ‘new’ stock disintegrated so spent race one being towed in and replacing the stock and rudder with the straight blade.
Race two shinys kite system exploded so retired from that and decided to call it a day.
While stood onshore for race 3 we saw some collamity on the first downwind leg, Nick had capsized for a long time, later getting towed in, hull out of the water. Dave did a full pitchpole which was strange.
Later we found they had hit Cheney Rock at full chat. Dave coming off lightly with mushed foam in his crash box.
Nick coming off worse with a FUBARed case and snapped pole. This left him out of contention for the rest of the weekend.

No one sailed race 4.

Evening entertainment was an 80’s night, was good to have some classic cheese whilst putting the world to right over some drinks.

Sunday: 7-12knots
Race 5(?) somehow Shiny got away and stayed with the 505’s.
Eleanor and Ej kept fighting behind, Chilli went in to swap to big sails.
Race 6 was hectic! 2 boats each side of the beat, all 4 rounded in 10 seconds, with shiny gybing off early to come inshore who then overtook EJ and gained on Chilli by the bottom mark, ultimately these position stuck, later EJ,s mainsail started to slip down as the eyelet had let go.
Race 7 much the same as race 6 but without EJ.

Thanks go to Sheppey sailing club for hosting. The 505's for sharing, Lee for dressing up Jonathan Goolden for stepping up for rescue duty and photos and James Bell for photographing us.

James bells photos can be bought for £10 from him.
If you can't find him on Facebook, let me know.

Looks like the Cherub turnout was 250% higher than the other class. 🙂
