Title: HISC blast 24/25 June
Post by: andy_peters on June 01, 2017, 04:54:44 PM
All,

Not long until a gloriously sunny and breezy F4/5 at Hayling.  We need to have a rough idea of who maybe coming to sign in guests.

Unfortunately Clive has rented out his local pad but there is still accommodation at the club.

We will be going and have booked a bunk room for 2 at the club Saturday night.

I'd be happy to divide the cost of a rib between us and get some videoing/training aids, dare I say it? Possibly some starts?!

Do we have any sort of plan? (Curiosity from me and request from my brother who is Rear Comm Sailing I think)

Do we want to join in the racing on Sunday?

Is there anyone coming to try a Cherub?

Our plan is to turn up late morning on Saturday and go sailing.

Jamie was considering coming and doing some filming - I don't know his current plans but if we are still thinking of filming then we need to see if a rib can be hired from the club and how much that would be - could your brother find out?

As to Sunday racing - not bothered myself to be honest.  If enough boats are coming we can publicise try a cherub on Y&Y in the next few days but no point in doing that if there will only be a couple of us there.

So who will turn up other than us & Clive?

I am afraid that we will only be there for the Saturday and that is not definite.
If we are going to advertise it as a have a go we need to talk to Graham and make sure that the club is happy.

Good likely-hood that Zara and I would be around but highly unlikely that Madge will be ready (read that as impossible).

And full on it turned out to be.

I arrived on Friday evening and it was windy. Woke up Saturday morning and it was windy. I bimbled, Dan's boat arrived and bimbled, including snapping their boat breaker and having a fortunately-placed passer-by save the mast from hitting the ground. I became the custodian of the pole mandrel (thanks Clive) and was then persuaded by my brother into his 800 - big mistake, mainly due to neither of us being big enough. EJ got as far as being rigged before prudence (bless her) intervened.
When I say windy, just behind us a Flying 15 went from fully planing to a pitchpole that threw the 100+ kilo helm completely over his rather surprised wife/crew!
Sunday was fractionally less windy but with more vicious gusts (the Tasar world champion snapped his mast) so we stayed dry.

I blame my nephew Jeremy: every time he gets near a Cherub the wind picks up (see the Queen Mary report for additional evidence)! So expect a hooley at Weymouth where at this rate we will be having our maiden Cherub sail together.

Anyone got a spare 97-rules rig that would fit EJ...?

Yes we chickened out at 11 o'clock Saturday.  We had packed up Usagi but then unpacked him again after looking at Chimet and Cambermet  and had a very good sail at QM where the wind was a manageable 12-18knts.  They had the London Youth Games there all weekend so we had quite a lot of kids asking us about the Cherub.

I've booked a sunny F4 for Weymouth  ;)

Sounds epic, including the report from the local volunteer Lifeboat
