A 3 day event:
Saturday - blasting/ try a Cherub
Sunday - 3 back to back races. Note the first race will start at 10:35 AM on Sunday. The first 2 races we will share with club racing (2nd start in the 3 start sequence), the 3rd we will be on our own. W/L course (as per Inlands last year)
Monday - one longer pursuit race. Cherubs will start around 11:10 (start number 40). A round the cans course making full use of QM
3 out of 4 races to count. NoR and SI's are up on the QM website. They are supplementary SI's and need to be read in conjunction with the Spring Series SI's for Sunday and the Honey Pot Pursuit SI's for Monday

Accommodation available if you speak nicely to me or if you prefer your own room and a bed there is a Travelodge and Premier Inn at Sunbury Cross
Socials TBC but likely to be one night (Saturday) a pub by the river in Lower Sunbury and a curry. Sunday we can host some form of garden party. I would say BBQ but we don't have one.
-
ronin is planning on being there. Andy could we please have space for 3 sleepers :)
-
little chilly will be there with 2 sleepers. just Sunday and Monday for us.
-
Madge plans to be there too.
-
Can Dean and I grab some floor space on Saturday night please, probably only be able to do Sat and Sunday
-
Banshee to be around for 3 days hopefully!
-
I presume il be there.
Is the blast for outsiders to come and play/can I make a public Facebook event for it?
-
All floor space request noted. Plenty of room for all.
Jamie I'm just checking with QM that it is OK for an open blast Saturday but I don't expect any issue.
QM is full to the brim at the moment so half the bund is underwater - but don't make the mistake of thinking you can sail over it
-
It's all set up. Just need a yes and publish it.
I await your reply!
I too would like some floor space please!
-
There will be space at mine should you be over subscribed andy.

Jamie,
Yes to both
-
Alex is away again for this one.
I am beginning to think that there is a conspiracy to organise events that we cannot do.
More likely it is just PPP on our part.
-
If anyone is after a crew/helm for Sunday.. :-)
-
I think I am only in for the Sunday on this one and even then I'm pushing it to make the start time :-(
Hopefully J will be there in EJ tho?
-
Plan is to be there with Joe - aka Sven but currently answering to Vincent (as in van Gogh) providing that the glue securing his ear after sailing yesterday has done its work. Story to follow on the Midland Posse thread - headline "Sailor bitten by Squid"!
-
If there is interest i will bring an electric digital scale to QM so that we can weigh some boats.
it will be the large postal flat bed scale type so boats can be placed on top of it and no need to bother with finding a high strong points to hang the boats.
We will be looking to record weights to keep a better record of boats that measure.
Andy it will need a 3 prong plug if we can borrow a point from the club.
Let me know if there is interest and i will get things organized.
-
Sounds good to me - haven't weighed banshee at all since all the reworking, would be good to see just how overweight she is now.
-
I'm keen, although not to sure how I tell the old girl she's on the plump side.
-
I think chillie will be heavier than Shinny
-
I think I'm going to come and do this event with Squid, but need a crew or helm?? And a floor space for myself and said crew/hem if possible please?
A) I'd like to meet you all
B) I want to do a Cherub event
C) Id love to know how light or heavy the old girl is
Send me a message or comment here if you're up for the challenge, loss of ears is optional ;)
Cheers
-
would be good to meet you too.
-
SQUID is confirmed for QM, I have crew!!! Looking forward to meeting you all and probably capsizing in your near vicinity.
If floor space is available I'd like 2 spots please.
See you all soon
-
Hi guys Elliot and I will be bringing Heart Attack. Somewhere to stay would be great. We do have camper so a drive way would do.
-
So who have we coming to QM? I reckon the following:
Usagi
Cool Beans -little Chilli (Sun, Mon)
Green Bananas
Ronin
Elenor (Sat, Sun)
Shinny
EJ
Squid
Heart Attack
Banshee
Madge
So 11 in total. Anyone else?
I think that is 18 or so people also looking for a roof over their head for a night or 2. We may be pushing it for all to stay at our place though with a bit of creativity it should be possible. Any overflow I think Nick can find space for. So all will have somewhere to lay down their airbeds. There is space on our drive for a campervan.
As for socials. One night will be the traditional pub and curry by the river. For the other night how about some bowling and a pizza/Nando's?
-
Andy, if there is room for our motorhome on the drive or the road, please, we can fit in a couple of the sleepers (in addition to me and Rosie)

Yes there will be room on one or the other. We are in a cul de sac so usually quiet apart from commuters
-
Sounds good!
11 boats will be fun! ;)
-
More importantly, 7 different coloured hulls!
-
There will also be a one eared Sven to bunk down somewhere. I am asking if there is anyone who might take on this responsibility.
I intend to 'crack and finish' the Fuzzy re-build that weekend!
I think it might be an 8th colour?
-
Not sure about being 'responsible' for Sven. I think there might be an issue with the build quality - last time out we were just sailing along when I noticed that his ear had a serious crack at the root. Now, for a quite lightly loaded part, in my book that just shouldn't happen. Please can you reassure me?
-
Ade I am sure Elliot will lend Vincent a teddy and if he is very good I could read him a book as well.
I'm sure he can fit in an camper or he can have my space inside and I'll sleep in the car like the old days.
-
Ade are you collecting on Monday? If yes fancy a helming slot and I'll pull strings.
Anyone else reading I'm still minus a crew for Monday only...
-
Will race 4 carry 3x the points?
-
Will race 4 carry 3x the points?
No - as this is slightly odd timing being Sunday/Monday the idea being that you could do Sunday only and still get a result
I have had a word with the RO for the pursuit, we should only get one white sail reach connecting 2 long spinny downwinds (of course conditions allowing)

Il bring a snorkle, Shiny's going to kill me!
But thank you Andy!
-
Don't worry jay I'm made of rubber (apart from my ear which is now made of glue) actually.. can someone bring some extra plexus incase the other one wants to separate itself, apparently my dad says they're wing-nuts, but I suppose theres only one way to find out.
Thanks for the offer with the teddy Dave but I'll bring my own, but I'll take the camper van if its on offer, how much we talking???
-
I don't know ask Jay I was offering other peoples stuff.
-
So we are bringing heart attack sat evening as I have to work in daytime. Can someone text me adress of where you will all be Saturday evening.
Regards Paul

Paul,
I've texted you our address. We will probably be by the river by the time you arrive as the curry house could only fit 12+people in at 6:30 so we are going for an early curry followed by tall tale telling at The Magpie

I'll post a report in the next day or so
-
So here is the start of a report - if you were there feel free to add. I'll post it to Y&Y on Monday and also put it on the front page
A 3 day Cherub extravaganza was held over the late May Bank Holiday kindly hosted by Queen Mary SC. Saturday was for blasting, boat swapping and general bimbling whilst Sunday and Monday were for serious racing.
Saturday saw the first launch of the latest Cherub - Green Bannanas by the proud owners Nick and Jo keen to take advantage of an ideal first sail wind of force 2-3. Not quite enough to excite everyone else however all boats went for a sail before retiring to Lower Sunbury for a curry and some alcoholic tall tale telling.
Sunday dawned colder but with more wind. From the North it varied greatly in both direction and strength leading to some ladders for some (yes you Dean and Simon) and snakes for others. 3 races were held with Jonny and Alex Harris in Ronin making the best of the conditions to lead overnight with a 1,2,3 scoreline. Hard on their heels were Dean and Simon in Eleanor who won the 2nd and 3rd races with stunning last beats to lift themselves into the lead at the most important point of the race - the finish. Others had a mixed day with the normally consistent Andy and Jill in Usagi dropping a race due partly to gear failure and partly to a bit of lazer lovin', Jamie and Rosie in Shinny had probably the best of the rest with 3 good finishes. Despite winds of upto 20knts there were few retirements and only one breakage due to teething issues with Green Bananas. Sharing the racing with the club fleets was generally successful - if you count success as scaring the hiking shorts off lazer sailors (which we do)
With only one race on the Sunday, participating in the club's 2 hour pursuit race, Roinin only had to beat Usagi to win as Eleanor couldn't sail Monday. Despite port tacking the start Usagi had to double tack at the windward mark to give Roinin a lead they defended ably until the end, just missing out on winning the pursuit race by a matter of inches. Usagi kept them honest to finish 2nd and Jay and Joe sEARd through the fleet into 3RD
The Cherubs are back at QMSC in early October for their inlands and given the autumnal weather this was a good warm up for the more serious business later in the year. Will Usagi be able to defend their title or will it be taken away by Ronin, Eleanor or another challenger.
-
Great report Andy!!
One slight point - Una's surname is Rudman, not Ruddiman like mine. Can this be changed in the results table? Feels like I'm sailing with my mum :P Not cool for either party, though the claim to fame of the trifle may just be worth it, haha.
Cheers all, was a great weekend, and nice to finally meet you all.
-
That looks like an excellent event. I was at the MOCRA (Multihulls) nationals. Which were in Poole and utterly great!
