Afternoon ladies and gents,
Whilst at the dinghy show, I have been offered 2x RS600 masts (angel I believe) and wondered if anyone had any knowledge or opinions on making an '05 or '97 mast from these?
Being still quite new to this Cherub malarkey I thought the best people to ask are you guys.

They will make great starting points for either. For 97 they are probably good to go.
For 05 they may need an extra wrap of carbon through the mid section.
BUT Any Angell 600 mast will now be very old.
If the vanish has not been periodically redone the outer resin may be breaking down due to UV.
More significantly, to save cost, aluminium joiners were used at the hounds and for the mast extension.
If these have not been reliably washed of salt water they electrolytically corrode and will burst the carbon tube.
Either can be fixed but will add a lot of work.

Thanks guys, I haven't seen the masts yet, but before I take a trip over there thought it be worth asking. Thank you Clive, some very helpful info and pointers of what to look for. Everyone else, thank you muchly, if they're any good, I'll be back on here.

I joined the top of an Angel 600 mast to the bottom of a seldon one for a 97 rules boat. It was ugly but worked.
I knew about the ali tube where they joined but did not know about ali at the hounds. I have seen an early RS800 mast that split at the hounds from the ali tube expanding.

The mast on 2648 is also of Angel 600 origin. I cut off the bottom very heavy aluminium sleeved section and replaced it with another section to extend it when I removed the stump a couple of years ago. As Clive has mentioned, the Aluminium core corrodes and expands and in some cases actually causes the carbon to show signs of damage where the strands have been ruptured so take a really decent look at them. I just painted the mast as it's much easier to spot any wear and tear than trying to spot it on a laquered mast.
From memory, the Angel has the faired in carbon mast track, whereas the newer superspar masts are simple round section with a stuck on track.
