Info to be posted here as available. QMSC is a large reservoir on the west side of London. Directions here (http:////www.queenmary.org.uk/location.aspx)
Typical format - 3 W/L races per day. Saturday start is at 12PM with competitors briefing at 10:30, Sunday first start is at 11AM.
Shared open with the RS700's and D1's.
NOR and sailing instructions http://www.queenmary.org.uk/racing.aspx
Apparently guaranteed big side on Saturday. Likely to be smaller side Sunday.
Good news is that the bund removal is well underway, the bad news is it hasn't materially shrunk yet in a useful way for sailors.
Accommodation available at ours, Premier Inn and Travelodge nearby in Sunbury X - though I do believe Nick & Jo may be hosting our Saturday social at their place.

We will be having a Braai (bbq) at our place to celibate my 30th.
We are located in Frensham (near the pond) GU 10 3DX which is about 45 min from Queen Mary.
There will be Fire and Beer please bring meat to cook. Jo and I will sort salads and rolls and some beer/cold drinks.
There will be some limited spaces to sleep (beds) with a fair number of floor spots but please get in touch if you intend to stay over. (will have to survive cats.)
other cheap option is this hostel near Farnham (we have to drive through to get to QM) it's above a pub.

Other pricier hotels are available in the town
You will also be able to see the progress on the new boat.

Unfortunately neither Alex or Georgia can make the Saturday.
Are there any light weights out there who would like to sail on A+E with me if conditions are suitable?
Clive
-
Would your flying setup support a slightly larger crew?
-
Sub 60kg preferred. More is possible.
It will fly with the extra weight but I am concerned for the boat with my 90kg in the back.
Lack of room in the cockpit could be an issue.
Alex traps off the top spreader tip. It makes going forward much easier but has not been tested with a big crew.
I suspect that crew weights could start to rise as they have in the moth if foiling becomes normal.

Is that not the girth required to afford one?

Hi All can we have a quick count of who is intending on coming to the event as we have some people keen to get involved but are lacking a boat/helm/crew or both.
those that i know of so far:
Shiny - Jamie
Ronin - Harris boys
Usagi - the Peters
Cheese - Nick
Poppy - Roland
EJ - Robin/Josh
thanks
-
EJ - is already on Poppy's stacker.
There are two boats on another double, at mine. BS is one and the other I'd need to talk nicely to the owner about.
-
Not going to make this one ( childcare issues )
-
Josh and I should be there all being well, and sailing EJ.
-
Looks like Jo has a dance event on Sunday of this event.
If anyone is around for either just Sunday or potentially both days and is willing to crew please let me know.
thanks
-
Seem to have resolved the childcare issue, hopefully Ben will be sailing New Tricks with me on Saturday. May be a bit late as his football training finishes @ 10.30 will try to make second race.
-
Paul and Elliot Berry will also be bringing the last sailing Jenifer Julian along.
-
Does anyone have a child's trapeze harness they could lend me for this event?
-
Hi Simon,
We have one you can have.
If you lend us a child for Saturday there is a second one available that is also out grown.
Only prob is that i may only be there on Sunday.
-
I will only be there Saturday as Ben is playing football on Sunday morning. Just going to enjoy sailing round at the back with Ben, probably only going to do a couple of races. If you have a spare harness though would be happy to purchase it from you.
-
Hi Simon,
You are welcome to it. Alex has used it more than anyone his age should.
Can I post it to you?
We will not be there on Saturday as he is racing school E karts.
It would be easiest to use our work courier with an address where it can be signed for.
Have fun with Ben.
Sailing the Cherub with Alex has been some of the best sailing that I have ever had.
-
Thanks Clive that would be amazing. I'll PM you my in laws address as they are normally around during the day.

Ahead of this weekend, can I gently remind you to
CHECK YOUR NUTS
Seriously, my double arrived at QMSC last night after a close shave. Pulled over after I heard a slight grumble from the back to find 1 nut left hanging on by a single turn. One of the studs fell off when re-tightening and finished the last 20 miles with 2 nuts on one side and 3 on the other (I carry spares after loosing Ade's nuts earlier in the year).
-
If we make RV work in time, we should be at this one
-
Hi guys we are coming with 2445 ( a really old girl)My son Elliot's boat he's lost his crew so he has me a not no longer cherub crew shaped person up front lol. We need somewhere to crash overnight for a 14 year old and a slightly older one. A floor would be great or even a driveway and we will sleep in car.
-
So 10 cherubs turned up. Day 1 was cloudy and light to medium winds, day 2 beautifully sunny and medium winds. Winds N.E and a bit shifty and variable but enabled some pretty good sailing, mostly twin trapezing and planing. 6 races held, fuller report to follow - I will have a go later and others can add. Results up on QMSC website.
Nick hosted his 30th birthday party on the Saturday night but others took up the challenge of finishing all the liquids available with some inevitable consequences.
-
Well?
-
How about this - I'll give until tomorrow afternoon for any comments/edits after which I'll send to Y&Y.
With a forecast verging into foiling range for Cherubs anticipation hung thickly in the air at QMSC for the Cherub inlands. With 2 boats showing up with additional horizontals on their rudder and daggerboards who would be faster over the series, the 8 tortoises or the 2 hares?
The first day was held in light to medium breezes under leaden skies. With sole use of the larger side of QM the race officer was able to set a sizeable course that enabled 3 races pushing an hour long each to be held. The breeze was definitely sub-epic for foiling with Clive and Alex Everest in A&E occasionally flying and Graham and Eddie Bridle in Riot Van stuck a little more firmly to the surface. So definitely a day for the tortoises. Andy and Jill Peters in Usagi (a rabbit not a tortoise) were the quickest of the day posting 3 firsts. Challenging hard were Jonny and Alex in Ronin with 3 second places. Third and fourth on the day was fought out by Roland Trim’s 2 boats. Luckily for Roland his newer boat with him in it beat his older boat with the fleets Destruction Duo in it. Even better for Roland the Destruction Duo were off form and the only things they broke on Saturday was themselves – and that had nothing to do with sailing.
In the evening Nick and Jo generously hosted their first (and likely last) cherub house party to celebrate Nick’s 30th. Suffice to say there was a lot of food consumed and even more drink. Apparently Nicks house is a halt on the route of the Jager-train and at least one of the Destruction Duo was comprehensively de-railed.
Sunday dawned bright and slightly breezy. Breezy enough for Clive and Alex to be sporting wide grins and even Graham was tempted to the start-line. Again 3 races were held, the speed of some of the boats tempting the race office into adding an extra lap to the middle race for a 5 lap marathon. Race one started in ominous silence from a couple of boats – yes the foilers were up and off. Like with many things in life apparently size does matter when it comes to foils. Clive has a large one and Grahame a small one! Certainly on Sunday a large one was better and Clive foiled away to winning 2 of the 3 races. In the right conditions a foiling hare is clearly faster than surface hugging tortoise. Graham was a little more variable showing great speed in a straight line, unfortunately that line only rarely coincided with the layout of the course. Scared hare perhaps?
Of the tortoises Andy and Jill were again the fastest winning one race but they were even more hotly pursued by Ronin with places changing several times each race. Action in the rest of the fleet was equally hot with Nick in Cheese beating Roland by the merest of seconds in race 4. After taking the first race out to de-train Robin had obviously got to grips with his loan E5 to post 2 fourth places proving there is good life and durability these days in EJ.
So when all the boats has settled back into the water evidence proved that over a range of conditions the tortoises are still faster than hares. It is only though a matter of time before the big feet of the hares propel them over the water in a wider range of winds and they are able to more closely challenge.
So after 6 good races Andy and Jill Peters are the 2015 Cherub Inland Champions, Alex and Johnny Harris were second and Clive and Alex/Joe were first foiler and third. The class would like to thank QMSC for hosting some excellent sailing and to Bob Joce and his team for providing good racing.
