Have been asked by a few to document my new trolley build with the cradles.
This is how i have chosen to do it, it might work for you it might not.
So, for my trolley i new it had to be a sovereign trolley to fit my box trailer.
I knew the cradles had to have big upright to allow me to roll the boat in the trolley
and handles would be nice, but not a necessity.
i started by looking round the dinghy park at draycote and found a soverign trolly (how, i dont know)
With the boat at home and on the lawn upside down (see picture 1) i placed the new trolley (gingerly) on to shiny (see picture 2), marked on where the axle sat and the the front cradle mount with a white board marker.
IT IS AT THIS POINT YOU WILL NEED TO MIX UP A TEST BATCH OF RESIN, POOR IT OVER AN EXCESS BIN BAG IN A SEPARATE CONTAINER, WALK OUTSIDE AND PLACE AWAY FROM ANYTHING!
i stress this very much so. i mixed up a test batch, the catalyst bottle read 66% resin to 33% catalyst.
This is what i mixed, 5 minuets later i looked to the end of the garden to see the bonfire i had just mixed.
i started to add a protective layer (bin bags) over the hull (see picture 3), i used brown parcel tape.
This was a protective layer to stop drippage on to the nice fair hull.
once that was done i then tapped in some carpet, this acts as a spacer as you will need a 'cushion' for the boat to sit on (probably the same carpet) see picture 4
After a coffee i put on the top layer of bin bags, this allows you to be able to change the carpet from the cradle once it goes mouldy (see picture 5)
i chose to use chop strand matt glass for this. i cut the sheets, placed it in the order i wanted to laminate them and mixed the resin.
5 layer later and (see picture 6)
Looking back so far:
im glad i mixed up a test of resin otherwise we could have had another aqua scandal.
if i did it again i would bin bag the whole of shiny, as there was some unwanted drippage on to the hull
i would make sure the carpet was really well tapped down, it probably isn't an issue when making cradles for new boats as they are round, but for the angular lady's out there, a floppy carpet isn't much use to you.
i would want to use a resin roller, i couldn't get one in time so settled for paint roller (probably explains why i used so much resin)
and on that note, make sure you have enough resin, i have a lot of unstuck matt around my cradles as i spotted resin was going to be tight so only did the essentials.
Still to do, trim unwanted matt off cradles, add reinforcements, find a way of attaching them to the trolly.

So, if I was clever I would have taken the Center of gravity of shiny with and without the mast.
Currently making plans of strengthening the cradle in my head as I don't have a pen.
Am tied between wooden supports glassed in, or tubes that stop the cradle opening too much.
EDIT: didn't realise how good Shiny's king post is, it's ability to support the boat and coupled with my substandard height it ment I didn't need any workmates to support the hull. Thank you Mr Patterson!

Suggestion: B&Q etc sell artificial grass. This doesn't hold water and promote osmosis, doesn't rot or support mould, and because its thicker than carpet tolerates greater inaccuracy in cradle building.

I have a large amount of 'grass' left over and it's more than i will need for my new boats' cradle if you want some.

All good points, but it does make a horrible noise when the boat is moved.

Jamie, lol...Jamie man, what resin product were you using here ?
You literally made a thermal grenade of glycerine !
2% of catalyst mate
100ml resin / 2ml hardener
were you using syringes to measure it out ?

nope scales, all i had. failure to prepare and all that....

Since Jamie was building i thought i would join him on the weekend and build my cradle.
Used a similar process (without the hot mix test)
I am lucky that i have a spare bottom shell that was in the mould so i have taken it off that and not my shell it's self to reduce the risk on damaging my shell.
I'm at the point of fitting the molded parts to the trolley. This will hopefully be completed by the weekend so i can get back to fitting the deck on the new hull.

How are you planning on fixing the fiberglass to the trolly?
It is perplexing me no end!

Try glassing in galvanised angle then use box section to attach to trolley. worked for my N12.

so the rear is now glassed to the middle and stiffener bars are in as well. Later i will be glassing in the longer vertical tubes on the out side mount. these will go out side of the chine to give support up the sides.

Try glassing in galvanised angle
I've glassed on odd scraps of hardwood and then bolted through that.

Im now catching nick up on this.
To do:
Add final layer of glass to cradles
trim the rubbish ends off
glass on to trolly
place boat on top
if i get my bottom in gear i could do all the above this week, but i doubt that

Sorry, forgot to post a conclusion.
i eventually pulled out my finger and got on with it.
i plexused the cradle to the trolly so i wouldnt move then glassed it to buggery, carpet was added with some no more nails stuff from homebase and bob your uncle, all done.
problems i did find were the back cradle is lower than the previous trolley, this does have a tendency to induce tail strikes (to counter act this i have cut the handles off the trolley so you lift from the bowsprit moving the lift point up 250mm ish)
if anyone does this in the future and needs advise in fluent idiot, please dont hesitate to ask.

finishing the jib,
sanding turbo foil
and making turbo foil stock
