Shiny will be coming to play, have we tames the beast, will she escape from under our feet being able to smell sand and sea water.
Will her helm decide that tequila is actually better than a teddybear.
All we know is that.... If you see us on the start line, we have no idea what the HELL is going on. Thank you.
-
Robin and I will be coming out for a blast, this time in Dan's Boat:)
-
Is there any chance we could arrive late on Friday night at the club?
KISSTORY Player app finally downloaded. I think Poppy/Shiny will arrive with a car full of smelly teenagers with hearing complaints and one old person desperate for a beer.
-
First you call me a teenager than old. Make your mind up!
-
R if you wish to arrive on Friday,I can open the club for you. What sort of time would you be aiming for?
-
Will call/PM when we have more of a plan :-)
-
is anyone coming from the south?
I have the cherub class flag that could be useful for the Race committee.
-
Andy and Jill are coming, also Dave Ching with Beans. Not sure about Clive and Alex.
-
I am not sure either unfortunately.
Too much going on and not enough weekends.

We are intending to come - depends if I shake off the filthy long haul cold I picked up on the way back from The 'pines. Having said that we are more London than south and wouldn't be passing by Nick's place on our way. If Dave is then perhaps a handover could be arranged otherwise it will need to wait until Sailfest.
-
Sorry we have had to change plans,
Hayley can't make it and we have now made plans to see Swan Lake with Elliot (now that's got to be an original reason)
Up there with Clive's AI event for the last event.
-

Hi, is anyone thinking of going this weekend and is in need of a crew?
Thanks, Abi.

Hi
A man by the name of William Lockett is hopefully looking to buy cheese and is intending on popping down to Sheppey this weekend to meet the fleet. He'd love to have a look around at the boats and if possible even go for a ride! Unfortunately I'm currently struggling to get Cheese down there from Draycote so if anybody could help him out and take him for a ride that would be much appreciated! Great guy, keen, an ideal Cheruber! :D
-
Ro are you bringing Born Slippy? Maybe Abi and William could join forces?
-
Si/Dean,a bit of local knowledge would aid me wondefuly.
What is the best weather station to look at for the weather, and with your eyes looking over the forecast, what will it actually be?
Cheers muchly.
-
All the forecasts I have looked at are putting Saturday 20 to 25 mph and Sunday 15 to 20. That said earlier in the week they were saying lots less. Good sites are XC Weather for forecasts and iossc for live weather, in my experience wind guru tends to forecast on the high side.

Went looking for racing results on the IOSSC website this evening. Nothing posted up, but this from the sailing club webcam an hour or so ago is very nice! Numbers say it's very windy though.....
-
Congratulations to Jamie and Rosie on their first open meeting win. Saturday was around 25 mph north easterly, only 5 505's launched in the cherub manner just took a few more people to lift them in. Only Eleanor braved the wind and after steaming off upwind struggled to bear away in really lumpy conditions.
Today was the polar opposite with really light breeze and only one race, the wind died completely after shiny had finished leaving the rest to struggle to make enough way to match the tide.
Saturday night was a brilliant social with team Cherub coming 2nd in the quiz, and wining the top prize in the raffle.

Nice and flat chaps but i think the weather justified our decision not to attend, hard as though it was. We actually sailed Sunday - the RS200 at Wembley open and despite being only 50 miles of so from you we actually had enough wind to plane albeit only twice and completed the 3 planned races - the wind was generally light but gusty
-
sorry for not turning up, mixture of bad forecast and work on Saturday put us off. Had a nice shakedown sail at HISC in a dying wind on Sunday though and it was good to know the muscle memory is still sort of there after the winter.

Link to some photos of the race on Sunday.

Cherubs and 505's is an interesting combination. The PY's aren't too far apart, but obviously the nature of the boats is entirely different. Anybody care to say how the 505's went in comparison to the Cherubs? I'd hazard a guess that they were faster uphill and the opposite downhill, but interested to hear if anyone has any observations.
-
shinys speedpuck says she went upwind with a speed of 5-9 knots.
took about 20 minuets to get to the top mark, only a few (3?) 505's got past us.
downwind we were going about 5-7 knots (the wind was dying) rounded the bottomw mark not loosing a place to the 50's then lost 3-4 places going upwind again.
-
The 505's were faster uphill, however without enough breeze to get on the wire it was clear the extra hull length of the 505's was beneficial. As both classes have expressed a wish to do this again next year maybe we will get some good weather to test this.
-
IIRC the 505 has a beam of 1.8m or thereabouts, and a slightly bigger white sail area at about 17m2. So, same leverage, bit more power and about 40% more waterline length means they ought to go upwind like a train, at least in displacement mode. Their conventional kites look huge, at a guess at least as big as ours. But the Cherub wins massively on weight, probably 50% lighter, and flatter bottomed leading to earlier, faster planing. So in theory the Cherub should destroy them downwind in a breeze. But that is offset by the greater stability and general seaworthiness of the 505 in big breeze and lumpy seas. I think it would be very interesting to see how they compare in action in a variety of conditions.
-
Il lead to belive their kites are 8(?)m^2 bigger than ours.
Also would the foil drag outweigh the lift benefit at that boat speed?
-
The 505 kites are now 30m hence they like windward/leeward courses.
-
Is there a Travellers update and will we ever get to know where the other Cherubs finished?

Sorry. With my laptop, passport and now my car being added to the "recently stolen" list I'm not going to manage to write any more of a report until at least next week. Have a few other things to sort...
It was a very good weekend. Sadly not alot of sailing.
Saturday - wind almost "menta"l, sea "confused and holding a conversation with itself". All this made launching "tricky" from shore swell. Cherub fleet launched the 505's by physically throwing them into the water and then hit the pub. Dean and Si went for a jolly and even the home boys found the conditions a little on the tricky side - returning home by rib.
Sunday - pre race there was a solid 3. By the top mark on lap 1 it was a drifter. By lap 2 there was not enough wind to fight the tide. Good boat speed in all conditions saw shiny take the race and the open meeting.
