Loco's trailer will be securely locked at all times...
-
Duck Wars will be there, minus the leak in the hull, attempting to make Andy Peters regret selling me his old mast!
-
John, I look forward to it - you have a proven mast for inlands, just try to keep the rest of your boat from self harm. There are ducks at QMSC so perhaps the t-foil can take a bite at them instead. If they are scared of an E5 it might stop them cr***ng on our cover... ;D
-
Would people be interested in live tracking for all the races in this event? QMSC have hired tracking devices for the year at a grand cost of £10K and are keen to push their useage. For £10 per boat you will be able to see your speed bursts and tactical faux passes over the whole 6 races. See the link for an example of a cherub not sailing to its handicap!! (the Weds eve race on 4th Sept)

They would need 10 plus people prepared to sign up to make this worrthwhile as apparently they would need to pay someone to admin the system before and whilst we are racing
-
Sign me up.
Looking forward to it, hopefully a bit more wind than yh last two years.
-
Hi Andy count us in as well.
Clive
-
I'd be interested in seeing just how much catching up I have to do, and where! Sign me up
-
Yep, we're in.
-
We're in Andy
-
joe and i are in. The first leg is always the most interesting for us.
-
Could someone advise the B14's as I can't post on their forum? With them I'm sure we would get enough advanced takers for QM to go ahead with the tracking.
-
Its been posted now ... http://www.alan-davis.net/sites/b14/forum11/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=2782 (http://www.alan-davis.net/sites/b14/forum11/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=2782) I'd be quite confident you'll make your 10.

So I see. With regards a social I suggest we could do one of 3 things:
1. Be social and join the B14's. I've never been to The Goat though have been past it many times and never felt the urge to stop off. Would need motor instead of foot power from our house to get there. Similar distance to either for those stopping in the Premier Inn, Holiday Inn or TL.
2. The Magpie (where we have drunk before by the river) will have just been re-furbished (closed at the moment) with new inside, new kitchen and new menu. Could be worth checking out drink and food this time - we could reserve a space inside. Nicer location than the Goat for a beer though can't speak for the differences on food
3. The tried and tested beer and curry approach as per the past 2 years (Magpie and Shahin).
We can pin the trackers to the youngsters so when they drink too much and fall in the river we know where to fish for them.

CERBERUS ?
-
Social, for ease of transportation my vote is for 2 or 3.

Your wish is my command. We were at The Magpie last night and I have booked dinner for 20-25 people at 7:30. I'll up-load the menu at some point. Pub (including kitchen) has just been re-done and they are no longer tied to Greene King ales so they have quite a good selection of local beers.
-
Andy, if it helps you with numbers, I am pretty sure we wont be around Saturday night.
-
Forgot to say the upstairs is now a restaurant so I guess that means it is OK for those with crews who look under 18.
Usual floor space available at our house for those who will be around Sat eve. Or there is now a Premier Inn and Travelodge right by Sunbury X.
-
Could Dean and I grab some kippage space? Thanks
-
suicide is now in and would be happy with putting the money in for a boat tracker, at least then somebody might know where were going!!
Also if we could grab some floor space for helm and crew that would be much appreciated
look forwards to seeing you all there :)
-
Team Poppy are in, no floor space as helm snores too loudly...

Garage for Roland!
All others welcome indoors....

and the menu for those who take a long time to decide.
Or if you are a hard up student there is a chip shop within walking distance, a bench by the river for eating them and the pub below the restaurant for beer
-
My word, smoked duck and pomegranate salad at a cherub event ! Who said the demographic has changed ? :)
-
Dry Martini, shaken not stirred please...

Hi,
Any idea where I can see a copy of the NOR or SI's? [Ben I will sign up to the association in next couple of days when I get some free time]
Cheers Chris [Ronin]
-
Hi Chris,
The NOR will be up tomorrow on the QMSC website with some luck and the SI's will be available on registration.
I have edited the first post in this thread to include the start times and entry fee etc.
When you get a chance that would be great!
Ben

Corrected on the front page of this thread - Well done Ben.
Andy, although I've not spent too much time in your garage, I think my crew has kindly booked accommodation for Sat next to the pub!
-
Hi, my mobile is not working and i a have just PM'd jamie who I am supposed to be giving a lift to Inlands.
I am just off to the GP with my daughter who may be seriously ill.
If anyone can get a message to him I would be grateful as I don't have a number without my mobile.
The situation may resolve and we may be at Inlands,
Nigel
-
Hi Nigel,
I hope that everything is ok and that we will see you tomorrow.
Clive
-
Yes I hope Torchy's daughter is ok. Frustrating 1st sail in a breeze yesterday evening. Gusty F4, rushing to get out, rigged some bits and bobs wrong and had trouble getting off a shallow beach with lots of fishing boats to avoid, but fine once we eventually got into deep water. We will be at the inlands with the boat to get rigging, rudder set up and launching tips but unlikely to race looking at the forecast. I'm hoping it's going to be ok to pitch up with a boat and not necessarily race, but get a sail in if it drops off for a spell?
Chris
-
Chris,
If you are on the water, then you are completely welcoem to race. I can almost guarentee you will be better than we are.
-
Chris,
We'll be doing the same as you. My crew is relatively novice and nervous about sailing in strong winds. We'll have our boat with us and will launch if conditions allow. If its really windy I'll be spending a lot of time with my camera!
Tom
-
Hi all - hopefully I'll be heading down at some stage to have a nose at the action but Koko is staying at Grafham as i don't have towbar or decent crew... I'll throw my sailing kit in the car in case anybody with a nervous crew does fancy a spin in stronger winds and happy to help launch/recover too.
-
Jenny is in hospital and Sam and I are just debating what to do...it is a long-term condition and others are about to care for her and the baby.
If we do come tho'...I'm a bit stressed, so don't get in my way on the start line ;D
Jamie has been in touch and I'm just about to contact him
-
Ade and Joe are not going to make it. Nowt really wrong my end - just exhausted.
I Hope you all have a great time - it looks like it is going to be exciting!!!
Torchy I am glad to hear Jenny is in good hands.
Cheers all. ade.
-
WOW! unbelievable photos of the action from the first days racing. I bet the social chat was good last night. I have not looked at the tracker yet but what were the top speeds of RV?#hope you all have a great day today.
-
Graham reckons 20kn but he doesn't want it broadcast around....sorry Graham ;)
...well, he doesn't want pictures on Youtube anyway
-
btw To everyone still at the event...yes, that is Loco you see stranded for a second year in succession at QMSC! The lighting on the trailer failed (new car, electrics and lighting board) and it wasn't legal for me to tow home.
I'm sorting it this week...hopefully. Trailer is locked, so can't be moved even to Andy and Gill's. Fingers crossed
-
Where are the photos Ade? I can't find them on QMSC site.
I just had a look at the tracking app. Very cool indeed. Just saw Clive hitting 20.0 kts a short time ago!
-
Hi Neil, Joe showed me the photos from Andy, he shared some of the Saturday photos on facebook.

Great fun yesterday and again today - today's gusts were quite special. Nursing some impressive bruises but we had some fantastic Born Slippy action. We were just a little bit gutted they canned the second race today after we had crossed the startline.
Ade, social chat was of course up to its usual cherub standard, but it all went decidedly quiet when dinner arrived, and most of us were in need of an early night to recuperate.
-
By virtue of the gods, our tracker didn't work on either day (which i'm not best chuffed with !) however, on Saturday our velocitek did - sadly on Sunday it didn't where on one reach only, we certainly exceeded this ... possibly by quite a lot if the marks in my wetsuit are to be relied upon.
-
Spill the beans then! who won?
-
Clive and Alex from Paul and Ed, well done both in terrific conditions.
Soooo much better than last year ;D
-
So the dent I put in A+E didn't slow them down then?
Sorry Clive...for the dent, not for 'not slowing you down.'
Congrats
-
Well a 9th at QM seems to have still secured us the travellers this year. A small consolation for a disappointing weekend. It was great to see everyone despite our issues, look forward to showing our faces at Draycote in November.
-
We had a bit of a mare when the prize giving had to be halted, a jury convened and after Mr Croote refused to accept 1st place (after Clive had magnanimously taken 2nd) .
The results all through the fleet look a little suspect. For the travelers positions the real embarrassment is at the bottom. QMSC show DNC for all races for Cheese and Loco. Cheese may have DNF'ed the first by missing the gate (but was sailing all 3) and Loco was involved in at least 1 start line incident. We will need a bit of a discussion to work out what we do with the travelers results
(I am conflicted on this)
-
If there's a tie, I'll arm wrestle Si for it - but can i have a few weeks to recover first please? ;D ;D ;D
BTW there are great pics here http://www.sportography.tv/
-
Yes I had a quick look at the results last night and they have us down incorrectly in Race 1 - we were definately 3rd, however I don't think it affects anything so not bothered unless anyone else is.
We did 3 RS200 races at an extremely challenging Wembley (3knts one minute, 30 knts the next). We even got blown over upwind! A rather spectacular wipe out whilst leading (going for a gybe in a huge gust - it was either that or suddenly grow wheels) put paid to winning and we finished 3rd, 1 point of first. Still we got some nice rooster gear and £80 worth of vouchers so worth the short trip.
-
Results do look suspect.
Loco started late first race and finished last. For some reason the RO decided to start the B14s before (to be accurate, as) we were finishing and then ran the second Cherub start as we were (deliberately and pointedly) capsized adjacent to the committee boat sorting out rigging. I was pretty gobsmacked to see Cherubs massing for thE start as we were righting Loco and a big gust caught the jib, Loco bore away and took off and we hit Clive because there was nowhere to go. We started the second race but retired because Sam was exhausted from kite hoist problems. We were DNS third race and I had to return to Birmingham Saturday night.
Paul Croote is a gentleman and this is the best class on the planet.
-
I'll have to arm wrestle Andy as well, because I'm pretty sure we were 3rd on the first race ! Actually Eddie vs Jill might be more fun.
Its a good job I am not El-Pres anymore, because this is starting to get my goat. Far too often we're treated like 2nd class racers without proper attention to whats going on - no such mistake was made with the B14's, nor would it be imho. I also notice that the B14's had their top speeds proudly hailed with their results, noone bothered with ours we had to go and ask afterwards. It would be easy for me to assume that they thought we'd clearly be slower and less impressive.
Clive got his speed, cant remember how it compared to the top B14 speed, he'll tell us - I'd like to think we trumped them all but our tracker didnt even f-ing work which has peed me off as I was looking forward to the results.
Rant, me ?
-
That's not a rant, this is a rant...
Actually, no. It was just a poor show from qmsc, they clearly don't get Cherubs but that is their issue not ours. Cherubs have big enough hearts to get on with being cool whatever others think.
Iconic shot of RV foiling :)
-
Last year they told me off for apparently finishing a race twice even though i hadn't. They later admitted that they had me confused with another boat.
What could be an easier fleet to manage? We have different coloured hulls and short sail no.s and a relatively small fleet. I could understand 100 lasers being a little more taxing to manage.
-
I certainly suggest an article to yachts and yachting and point them to that photo. Could be a cover shot. great publicity!
I sailed our club enterprise open on Sunday and capsized twice during the racing. The peak gust after the first race was 43 knots. I think 1 boat remained upright. Lots of near spills and spray everywhere on the reaches. Luckily for me we go 3 firsts taking the event win and the regional series win aswell.
Had the exciting moment on a planing reach when the rudder pin broke rudder popped up and I had to fit a spare.

Have to be quick, another year and Eddie will be too big even for Jill. We could of course check the trackers.....except ours didn't work either.
-
Can someone who was there for both days please send me some texts to put in the report for the website.
Thanks
-
Nick,
I'll do a shortish write up for Saturday later this evening - I wasn't there on Sunday, perhaps Clive could add a para on that.
I've asked Alex for a couple of photos to accompany the report, including the iconic one of RV foiling round the mark

We just look so awesome they get distracted and lose count and concentration. :)
-
The pleasure of 3rd place........the report - or at least a start. If someone can add a bit for Sunday I will send of to Y&Y tomorrow eve with some photos.
Despite a forecast that looked distinctly unpromising for Sunday sailing 13 Cherubs turned up Saturday morning at Queen Mary for their Inland Championships. A number of white horses across the lake and a forecast of increasing gusts had a number of cherubists rigging up their smaller sails, a move some would come to regret. The wind allowed a good length course to be set on the smaller side of the reservoir and after a short postponement to allow all boats to launch racing began.
Interest among those in the know was high. With wind sufficient for foiling would the one cherub that was forging the high road leave all the others trailing or would the fable of the tortoise and the hare literally hold water? The three races on the day were dominated by two teams who mastered the gusty conditions Alex and Clive Everest winning the first two races after a close battle with Paul Croote and Ed Higham. The third race was held in the eye of the storm with those on small sails left regretting their choice. To give others a chance Clive fell in whilst keeping a firm grip on his quickly broken tiller extension. The light winds suited Paul and Peter Jenkins who took the bullet. As to the foiler there were some impressive bursts of speed and some good photo opportunities but the gusty wind made for some command and control difficulties.
After a good workout on the water and some impressive speeds reached on the QMSC TracTrack system the fleet headed to a riverside watering hole to replenish energy and liquid stores and wonder if Sunday would bring suitable sailing conditions.
Sunday morning dawned windy, to the extent that Team Peters took one look and went off to a nearby RS200 open. One race though was held and a select band of brave sailors launched to test themselves and their equipment to the limit. To be continued by someone there on Sunday........
Overall results:
1st Cherub 3215 Clive Everest Alex Everest
2nd Cherub 3212 Paul Croote Ed Higham
3rd Cherub 3202 Andrew Peters Jill Peters
4th Cherub 3214 Paul Jenkins Peter Jenkins
5th Cherub 3204 Graham Bridle Eddie Bridle
6th Cherub 2646 Nick Pratt Joanna Hutchinson

8th Cherub 2644 Jonny Harris Alex Harris
9th Cherub 2685 Nigel Moderm Sam Moderm
10th Cherub 3208 Dean Ralph Simon Jones
11th Cherub 2645 Jamie Pearson Polly Jarman
