THE SUN IS OUT. THE SKY IS BLUE. I'M THINKIN OF SAILING. HOW ABOUT YOU?
torchy, stom, deefender, and any others. Are we all up for Chew? I know I am. What about a regular once a month at Carsington, Rutland or other near (big) venues to suit. Let get some dates organised. Say; in-between the opens so that gives us 2 each month to get our teeth into. what yer all think! Anyone else can come as well of course...
-
Absolutely up for it...discuss here and get diaries together at Chew(?)
Saturdays generally good for me
-
I have the number for the events guy at Draycote, he approached us at the dinghy show and asked if we would like to sail there. Pm me if your interested.
-
The sun may be out and the sky may be blue but it's ffffffreezing
27th or 30th for mini-blast?
Any other takers? Where's Tom? Will email him if he doesn't pop up
I can bring Cheese if Digby and Jamie re-rig her successfully at Chew and are up for it.
I may bring a friend's daughter and possibly other Brum Uni students...maybe to the one after if this one looks too cold
-
Just checking; should that read 23rd March or 30th March. I can do the 23rd. The 27th is a Wednesday and I cant do the 30th.
We can hopefully start to sort out other midland blasts this weekend (Draycote etc)
cheers ade
-
23rd....dyslexic
-
Where's Tom? Will email him if he doesn't pop up
Sorry I haven't replied to your mail Nigel, I've had my head stuck in work since i returned from Japan. I'm still happy to help you make your T foil if you need my pump etc.. We'll have to sort a mutually convenient time.
I'll come along for the blast if someones willing to take me out. Our boats still part way through being refurbished. It's been a bit too cold to get a reliably decent cure on the resin whilst the boats on our drive... hopefully should warm up a bit in the coming weeks and I'll get her finished!
-
Hi Tom, I'd forgotten about the email...no problem, Sam and I are heads down on other things currently but was planning to touch base with you about making foils sometime. Definitely still up for it but new grandchild and 'life' have got me busy too.
Sam is unlikely to be at Carsington so Loco needs a crew/helm.
23rd looks like the date. I'll watch the weather before inviting Abi and students along...no point in putting her/them off
-
Heads up...illness in the family may prevent me coming....will let you know when I know.
(it's not me this time and currently isn't too serious, though a bit worrying)
-
brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
Let's look for a Saturday in April - the week before or 2 weeks after Sheppey Open ie 6th or 27th
-
OK. I think tomorrow is a silly idea as well. Joe is not up for it, I may go surfin instead!!! Yes Scarborough on Monday! "he's mad" i hear you say.
-
Too cold for sailing so let's go surfing???!!!!
-
Whilst i have a spare 5 mins, what are your thoughts on coming to Draycote?
Price would be £20 per boat for a day. If you do an official training, Saturday is £20 and Sunday is £4, on Sunday you can join in the windward/leeward racing.
If only a few boats want to come and play, then I'm happy to organise a 'blast'
Thanks
Jamie
-
I'm definitely up for something.
This Saturday I'm on duty at Bartley but I'm happy to upsticks any Saturday with a good forecast to Draycote or Carsington.
-
Depending on the date we may be interested.
-
Likewise. Would prefer Carsington to Draycote but happy to do either if the date suits.
-
ade and joe up for anything as we dont currently, have a base to sail. next weekend is good. Draycott or Carsington. How about once a month for a regular outing cherubing, Say the inbetween weekends from the opens. (ie... next weekend or 27th or 28 April as Weston is 11 12 May). and looks like June is free-ish as well. well up for it! lets try to make a date. I like this warm stuff!!!
-
sounds good, i will have a look at the club calender tomorrow.
il tell th eoffice that we might be expecting some cherubs in the near future, if there is a few of you, best bet is to phone ahead, so they have a little time to get the paperwork out.
-
Thanks Jamie, will do
Will post my availability here soon - this Sat or B/H Saturday (the following W/E) at Draycote seem to be the options
-
Damn, forgot to look at the weekend, will look on Wednesday night.
Out of interest would it be possible for some club member to have a go?
If so I will see how many people are interested.
-
I can't do this Sat
Anybody available Sat 4th May?
Carsington or Draycote?
I can get Jamie and Digby to Carsington if that's the plan
-
4th of MAY SAT sounds good for me. happy for either venue. sweet dreamzzz
-
4th May
Will contact Tom and see if he's up for it
Venue TBA
-
I have looked, and the 4th of may is good for draycote. The choice is yours :)
-
Sorry, 4th May is a no-go for us. Duke of Edinbro hike that wknd.
-
Hi Jamie,
I thought I had your mobile number...Ade and I are up for tomorrow at Draycote if you're still up for it. Is Digby about?
-
Feedback from John is that he is happy to loan Cheese...
Please make arrangements with him directly.
-
Loco and Sweet Dreamzzz had a stunning day at Draycote on Sat. Sun, Wind, Midges, lots of water drunk, loads of spills and a few really fast waaaaahy moments... Nigel even commented on how 'small' Draycote is he ran out of water once or twice.
So the Midlands posse is set for another soon, Draycote or Carsington. Me being bossy now... dates and venue prefs please everyone, so that we can arrange another wild cheruby session.
NB. Draycote visitors area has been landscaped and trimmed well back and the launching facilities are brill. enough for 20 cherubs now all on the grass!
-
Yep...it's official - modern Cherubs are fast and run out of water quickly.
Ace weather and we learned that some foiling Moth skills transfer to Cherubs and some don't. Jamie P took time off recovering from concussion sustained during a pitch pole in his foiler to demonstrate how to make a Cherub go upwind and how to ditch one quickly downwind by twin wiring with kite whilst heeling to windward (you've seen all those Moth videos...). We also found out how good a sea anchor I make when still attached to a wire - though we were still doing 5 knots with 3 sails still pulling hard.
See y'all at Weston (weather permitting)
-
Carsington or Draycote, preferences for either and which Saturday, this 18th or 25th Sat May. who is up for it?
-
Either for me but as for dates, this Sat is out and 25th might be possible - depending on half term week plans.
8th June looks good for me and is put up as another date/alternative date
-
HEADS UP!!!. sorry it is a bit late notice but I only found out about it today...
There is an open meeting at Nottingham County Sailing club bank holiday weekend if anyone is interested. It is a bit of a puddle and the courses may not be very Cherub friendly.
We are going to sail in either Kokopelli or Sweet dreamzzz. If anyone wants to come and cant be bothered to bring a boat that means there is a spare for anyone who wants it.
The club is open all weekend for camping and it is a very friendly place. Sorry Casa White is all booked up. See NCSC.org.uk for more details... It would be good Cherub PR if anyone has the time and inclination.
PM me if you want to borrow a boat. obviously first shout gets it Sweet dreamzzz or Kokopelli - your choice as Joe and i are happy to get wet in either.
I hope someone can come!
-
Will definitely consider this...we were planning to sail the 16 footer in the Norfolk Broads but Sam may prefer to bring Loco down your way and it's a lot closer...oh, and the trailer for the big boat is in bits after big complications getting parts
-
ok nigel, be really good to see you if you do, look at the website because entry closes on thursday, i am pretty sure that is for club members but you never can tell with notts. ncsc.org.uk. not sure on weather yet???
-
Sam and I will decide tomorrow night...I saw the entry closing date
-
just to guage interest, who is up for draycott or carsington this weekend? we could be.
-
Sadly I am on a training course >:(
-
Would anyone fancy Grafam on 6/7 July (weekend between Thornbury and Weymnouth).
We have a wedding in Cambridge to attend on the 6th...
-
Regarding Graffam. Does that mean you are available to sail on the sat if the wedding is sat? We would probably make it on the sat, but it is a 2 hour journey for us from nottingham, more for all the other mids. We also need to check with day sailing dates on graf as well.
-
I'm in Lake District that w/e
-
Anyone for Draycote this weekend. Sat 6th? (I have to leave by 4.00 pm)
-
Grafam does not work with the travel plans.
We are very tempted wit a Draycote run though. Will know more tomorrow/Weds.
-
Saturday at draycote should be fine, there should be a b14 to woop, and a plethora of moth, maybe even an int 14
-
Draycote. wind looking like a waste of time. not going to bother unless anybody has more than 6 k in the gusts!!!
-
We will be camping at the lake as it is enroute for our mega miles weekend.
Call me in the morning and I'll update you on the weather...
-
Seeing, via the internet Y&Y forum, we are invited to Carsington on the 8th September for their Charity regatta.
It is a great place to sail and we have good vibes from previous visits. Not sure yet if its a weekend thing as I have not researched it. A bit late notice but Joe and I will try to make it.
-
Will see what Loco's diary is like...she says woof woof but I'm not sure what that means yet...
-
As Nick says the 18s r doing Rutland in dec for 3 dates. I intend to be there, body and weather permitting, with SDzzz and joe, anyone else up for blasting?
-
Tempted...family health situation permitting
-
Draycote - Sat. SDzzz there, anyone else?
-
We can't make this saturday, but weather permitting will be at Carsington on Sunday
-
Would love to but I have an 8 month old in tow...daughter still in hospital
-
Grandad cherubists! Now is that a first? Have you got her a wetsuit yet?
Its my dads 83rd birthday on Sunday so Carsington out for me. Whats the plan for next weekend? Is Norfolk now shipshape? Hope all is going well for Torchy family... thinking of you Nigel and Jill.
-
Norfolk has been shipshape since August! The next 2 weekends I'll be in Japan so they are a no go. Then we'll be going to the sticky weekend after that....
-
Thanks Ade...Jenny is improving but no diagnosis as yet. We hope to have her home soon.
Yes, my grandson does have a wetsuit...for the swimming pool where I will be going swimming with the yummy mummies
-
Great day out at Draycote yesterday. It is a brill piece of water. It is now the home base for Sweet Dreamzzz as we have taken up winter membership there. Digby sailed with Joe and guess what, it is still in 1 piece. Not good for Digbys reputation but I guess my mods are strong enough now! Jamie was out blasting in a 14 and a B14 laser vago and 800 were also out.
Hopefully I can talk Sam and Nigel into a Draycote frame of mind soon...
-
Hopefully I have cracked Loco's kite hoist problems today, which is THE major issue holding us back and creating despondency in the Mad Dog's kennel. Tom and I thought we'd sorted it out after Weymouth but it actually got worse! The system seemed to have too many blocks in it and I think it was to avoid rope fouling the end of the pole. Simon Jones and I looked at it at the Inlands and we came to some conclusions there. Thanks Simon - top man as ever.
I have simplified it and moved the (now solitary) block back and well away from the pole end as it comes in.
Itching to try it out...
