Sweet Dreams
Loco Perro
Suicide Blonde
Norfolk in Chance
Eggbert/Ben - are you free?
-
carsington has hosted a blast once before and were utterly brilliant about it.
-
Thanks Will
-
Bump...and doesn't the weather look good for Saturday?
Not much wind tho'...enough probably
-
Forecast seems light on wind... Is anyone still attending Carsington? It's not to far for me to travel so I'm still keen if others are.
-
yep sweet dreamzzz will be there. looking forwards to it and meeting you all. we will be there at 10 ish. cheers ade
-
Loco will be there 10-ish
-
Thats great. We'll see you there tomorrow around 10ish!
-
The Midlands mini-blast went well - not enough wind but plenty of sunshine.
Johnny and Alex and Suicide Blonde took a break from chasing cats around the River Dee to dodging cats launching at Carsington. The Blonde is in skilled hands, showing good speed in the very light conditions both upwind and down.
Tom and Rachel with Norfolk in Chance are new to sailing, so they've cut out the boring boats and gone straight for the best boat around and with (I think Rachel said) a few hours in Laser Picos and a kite surfing pedigree (Tom) they reckon they'll cope - we agree.
Jo (Sweet Dreamzz' wire monkey) crewed Loco and ended up helming from the wire, which was great until we needed to swap over in a gust with the kite up...we loved it!
Nigel (Loco) and Ade (Sweet Dreamzz) want to suggest Carsington for a Midlands Open meeting next year. Excellent water, camping a stone's throw from the club. Carsington could easily host the Inlands.
Sadly no photos to show you and it was a pity because Ade (single-handed) tacking Dreamzz with the kite up was impressive.
We'll meet at Carsington again and perhaps a full weekend Blast next year at the very least.

Excellent work guys, someone buy Ade a camera !!

Excellent work guys, someone buy Ade a camera !!
Would that be so that Ade can demonstrate his skills sailing solo on the wire with kite up AND taking pictures ;)
It was really good to meet everyone. It was great how everyone was so friendly. Thank you all for a great introduction to the class! We can't wait to sail her with a bit more wind!

I agree with the comments above about Carsington being a great club with a very welcoming attitude. There was a Cherub Blast there one November about 10 years ago. The very best thing about Carsington though is the underfloor heating in the changing rooms when you come off the water with frozen feet. Mmmmmm....

Sounds like a great club, I will make contact with the appropriate people and see what can be down about an event next year
-
Thanks Paul, I was going to PM you but you got there first. A very warm welcome from the club and genuine interest in the boats...even from the lady I accidentally backed Loco into
-
Would anyone be up for another mini blast at Carsington on the 24th or 25th of November? It would be good to try and get the Midlands/Northern boats together again before the weather turns really cold!
-
Loco says 'woof!'...will check with crew availability...or bring a reserve
-
sweet dreamzzz should be OK.
-
I have been in contact with Carsington SC recently regarding an event for next year
I was hoping to get a two day event or the inlands for next year but unfortunately the clubs sailing calendar is rather full.
They are very keen to host us and have offered us a Cherub start at their RNLI Charity Day on Sunday 8th September 2013.
I would like to gauge the level of interest from the fleet as it the following weekend after the Nationals. This wouldn't be a travellers event.
-
Probably a bit far for the Atumists seeing as it is not a travellers event especially so close to the nats.
-
Having sailed the Stokes Bay open this year the weekend following the nationals I can say that the only reason we went was because the boat was obviously still packed up and on the drive, and Stokes is only sub 30mins drive from my house so we didn't need to worry about a long drive and booking accomodation etc.
I think that had it been further away then we wouldn't have done it and so really couldn't commit to going to Carsington this far in advance. I like the idea of an event in the midlands as it seems fair to spread the locations nicely, and having sailed at Carsington a fair bit I can vouch for it being a suitable location... but the week after the nationals would mean we were out.
-
I feel the same as Ben and Tim.
1 week after the nationals we are likely to be trying to regain the brownie points that allows us to go to the nationals.
Clive
-
Yes sorry, ditto.
-
maybe us locals who can, can go and join in - if they have a handicap class, but we may need to ask, as we wont have enough for a fleet start.
If we can go, we can make liaisons for a prospective 2014 open venue. We had a warm welcome at Carsington. Other venue ideas closer to the south include, Draycott, Rutland, Grafham, Pitsford...
-
All great venues.
-
I agree with Ade...the locals (and anyone else) should go and plant seeds for 2014. They were very welcoming to us
-
Can all who are intersted in attending make the 25th of November for a meet? Let me know what suits and we can finalise arrangements.
Nigel do you think you'll have a trailer by then? If not your welcome to come and have a play on our boat.
-
I don't think I'll be picking up Loco until 7th Dec - she is still at QMSC
Definitely up for it tho' but I/we will be boat less unless I bring the monster:
-
Having website problems...the monster is our 16 footer, not Sam but I/we'd rather just have a play in other boats I think
-
Gone quiet...is this happening.
I'm doubtful but would like to know if anyone's meeting
-
It was a 20mph gusting to 40mph forecast for sunday last time I checked. I think we'll give it a miss!
-
OK by me i can get on with lots of other stuff. hope your trailer gets sorted Nigel, remember my bro has a stacker he will sell.
-
Ade...I had assumed that had gone! Ca you let me have details?
