Title: 3D models of t-foils and dagger boards.
Post by: ross_burkin on March 04, 2012, 03:53:16 PM
Does anyone have any 3D models of a t-foil and a dagger board that I can have? Preferably for free, I guess there would designer royalties on foil shapes.

The intention is to CNC the profiles at college. Most file types are supported by our programming software (AlphaCam).

Thank you!

Ross, it will not take you very long to draw some up. For ready brew then Kevin E. is your man - his royalty vs time invested ratio makes it worth investing in....

I did a 3d model of a T-foil a few years ago in Blender, I could have a look, but they don't take long to do.

Ross, if you have something specific in mind id be happy to put it together into a 3d model for you. If your after a standard section it wont take more than 15mins to build a model for the daggerboard - maybe a little longer for the Tfoil depending on design.

Custom section design is another kettle of fish but your into diminishing returns there...

I can do one in Maxsurf fairly easily with a standard section...

Thanks for the replies guys. I'm not totally sure how to go about drawing foils but I guess I could have a go with a bit of guidance.

For the t-foil i'm not after anything special, just a section that works!

Dagger board, ask Stuberry. It'll be for him.

This is a NACA 63a012 section - its a modified 63 series with the concave section removed and a 12% t/c ratio. Its probably not the absolute best section available, but without looking at the numbers I would think its not too far off what youd want.

1600mm span here with a 250mm root chord, going down to 75mm at the tip with a semi-eliptical leading edge and a straight trailing edge.

Is that something like what you were after? Im a bit out of the loop with the current trends for cherub foils...

Your t-foil might look something like this...

This is the same 63a012 vertical section - Root chord 190mm, span 1100mm.
Horizontal foil is a H105 - Root chord 110mm, Tip Chord around 50mm, span 900mm

Again - this is pretty much a first guess - the H105 works as a lifting section, but it can definately be improved on and as with the daggerboard: the dimensions are just pulled out of my head for the time being. I dont think its too far away from the current norm but id need to sit down for a bit longer to work out what id really want.

Your welcome to the 3d files for either of these - just let me know the format.

If you had something else in mind just let me know and il make some updates. It makes a nice break from the usual fair here!
