Sorry for being fairly quiet on here recently guys, but exams are over, so boat pimping can begin!
my parents funding has come to an end, and i need to finish the E5 soon, so im going to be begging for off cuts, cheap carbon that nobody wants, etc... so heres a list
I need to make shroud hardpoints so in need some tow for that, how much would you recommend? (also need a source for d rings suitable for the job, i cant find them anywhere!)
I also need to make the back of my centreboard look less like a jagged line with bits of foam sticking out, so about 1sqm of 200gsm weave would probably be helpfull
finally i need enough epoxy and hardener to do all this...
obviously i'll pay for it all, just i cant afford to buy more than i need from manufacturers!
oh and if anyone knew where i could get under and over covers from for student prices id be gratefull!

I may be able to help you a bit here. I can source all the chandlery bits you need at 15% less than rrp. The D rings are easy give me an idea of what dimensions you want and I'll get some in. The covers I can get rain and sun made to measure covers for 15% off retail but they still may be a bit more expensive than cheapo ones (in all honesty these really are the best covers out there). SP Epoxy can be suppiled in handy packs at 15% off retail too but i'm sure another class member may be able to give a better deal if they have any spare.
If your going to the blast at Chew I'll even deliver it for you save paying postage.
Hope that helps.

I know a guy who makes catamaran wing masts and ends up with loads of reel ends of 12k tow usually a hundred or so metres on each. He will do any length of tow up to 3km if you want it. Let me know if you want to get in touch with him. He will also do small quantities of resin/filler/fibres and cloth for a fairly reasonable price.

Resin and fibres. We decant from the massive barrel at cost and there spare offcuts for hard points here. Are you heading to Chew for the blast? If yes collect some then?
For the CB use glass, it's not structural (add black pigment if you want it to fool an idiots on the beach).

If I get a chance, I will raid my new favourite skip, (I left with as much as I could possibly carry last time!) Might have a nice clean strip of 200g left over once my crazy model is built. (I've even got the ?world's smallest t-foil? for it; Whether this will help with speed isn't clear, but hey, its an interesting challenge and miles ahead of schedule, so doing it anyway :D)
But like you I am also scrounging for a post-exams refit, as I am making This Way Up more functional (Also on a budget! :-\)

The guy who makes wing masts has said it is okay to put his details up. His email address is [email protected].
Just mention Cherubs if you want to buy stuff from him.

Hi John.
There are some rolls of cloth (both class, carbon and carbon uni) in the back of my car which you are welcome to take off my hands, I only need enough for a kite pole. I will bring them to the blast.
As far as covers go, when I was in Southampton there was a lady who taught at the boat yard who made all the covers for the Weyfarers. I will see If I can get her number.

Hi,
I'm in the same boat as John aswell, but building a Farr 3. 7 with a carbon floor (+ building the rig n foils myself) so would need as much carbon as I can find! So after John has been round, would it be possible to get some off cuts etc?
I will be at the Chew Blast.
Cheers
PHS
