When- 21st and 22nd April
Where- Isle of Sheppey Sailing Club
What- Saturday 21st is Deans 40th Birthday, to comiserate this momentus occaision a blast has been arranged at IoSSC.
The format will be normal blast on Saturday with a dedicated Rib for Rescue/Photo's/Video, and we have been asked if we would like to join in with racing on sunday. Either with the club boats or have our own starts as a mini open.
Lets not forget the party of the year on Saturday evening at the sailing club.
-
We are planning on at least the Sat night and sailing Sunday. What are the accom options?
-
i would but im watching a rugby game
-
I will be there, only sat afternoon/eve and sunday though.
Any accomodation options?
-
Hoping to be there, with TWU (Newly painted :) )
-
Sorry for the delay in this have just sorted out alternative accomodation for Mrs. J and the sprogs, so plenty of floor space and one or two beds available for any who wish to stay. I live about 5 mins drive or 20 mins walk from the club.
-
Simon,
Would it be possible to cadge some floor space off you for saturday night?
Cheers
PHS.
-
You would be very welcome, may even have some bed space.
-
I think I heard a rumour they may be racing on Sunday at this event (not travellers obviously), any truth in that ?
-
IOSSC have invited us to join with club racing on Sunday. If there are enough of us then we can have a seperate start, or race on handicap with club boats.
-
Would be great to get our own start - how many people have we got??
We're planning on being there (wedding invitation has been demoted to second place :) )
-
Ronin will be there both days, maybe a bit tired on saturday as i am doing a triathlon at 7:00am
Even better if we get our own start. How many races does the club normally run on a Sunday.
What time would the first start be on Sunday
-
wedding invitation has been demoted to second place
I think this should have said "Recent events at R's work mean wedding invitation....
-
Paul I beleive that the normal is 2 or 3 races on the sunday but will check with the club.
-
So the roll call for this one stands at
Eleanor
Born Slippey/E6 No3??????
Usagi
Ronin
TWU
Loco?
Piers and Tom K
Can I interest any more takers? All welcome
-
Banshee Ambulance for the Saturday only.
-
I was very keen to see TWU there but I probably won't have enough time to finish her in time as I need to finish my school tech project.
Itching for a sail so might come down and take some photo's / crew if anyone needs it.
I could bring the Laser 2 but might loose some street cred..
-
Still up in the air but Sam might bring Atum along too. If he does he will require both a crew/helm and a place to kip. He may alternatively just turn up with sailing gear to beg a ride.
-
If he turns up with atum I can offer a guarantee as crew/helm if nobody else is free :P
-
So the roll call for this one stands at
...Born Slippey/E6 No3??????
...
Won't know the answer to this until the very last minute, but most likely to be Born Slippy. It'll be a close call, but I'd like a little bit of sleep between now and then ;D
-
Badgers may be making a Saturday appearance.
-
Hi guys, I am potentially available to crew in case there's anyone interested. Wife is travelling abroad with the baby and I will be left behind by myself for a few weeks. . . it has its cons but it means I am finally free to go sailing a bit!
-
It would be great to see you. It's a blast, so lots of boat and crew swapping, and just generally relaxed sailing. There could be some racing on Sunday. Come along!
-
It looks like Riot Van will be joining us for Saturday also.
-
Is anyone going from London to offer me a lift? ;)
-
Hi,
Just confirming Loco from Saturday night. Will come to the sailing club about 8-9pm.
Can we have floor space for two at Simon's
Ta
-
No problems there Nigel you're very welcome. For all those sailing on Saturday the club opens at 10.00 however I will be around from about 9.30.
The club intend to run 3 races on Sunday although the one planned for the morning has been marked as spare to help with the hangovers! We are welcome to join in or we can just go sailing.
-
Afraid TWU won't be able to make this one.. I can't get her there and couldn't get any sticking done today in the rain.. (There's a hole in my roof! :-[)
I'm still hoping to be there, lift pending. Bringing a tent unless there is anymore floorspace going.. ::)
-
You are welcome to some floorspace if you wish bring an airbed/sleeping bag
-
We will not be there but happy birthday to Dean.
You are exactly 364 days oldaer than me. (non leap year)
Sounds like a fun event.
-
ThorneySam here. I will be there with Atum for Saturday and Sunday. I need a place to stay and a crew. From the sounds of things I can't see this being difficult.
Can you let me know where to go and a tel number incase i get lost.
-
I can crew sunday! Just need to work out how I will get there. Is anybody coming past oxford on sat afternoon? or past a major train station?
Piers
-
Is Sat late afternoon OK? I am on duty at sailing club until 4pm, we'll (hopefully) leave pretty promptly and pass Oxford between 5 and 6.
Do you know Canal St in Jericho? My daughter lives on a boat called Mandingo. Meet you there? If she's in you could have a cup of tea :D
-
Is anyone driving past Junction 4 of the M3? (Camberley)
-
sam will be going via the A3/Guildford on Saturday if that helps
-
I need an Ambulance Driver for all or part of Saturday!
-
Gutted, I can't make this now as just had shedloads of work dished out today which I need most of the weekend to complete :(
Thanks for the offer Ben.
On plus side might manage some time to work on TWU.. :D
-
I need an Ambulance Driver for all or part of Saturday!
Come along. Drivers will be there.
-
I have a first aid certificate but won't be there 'til Sunday
-
Sam, have PM'd you my phone number if you get lost. There are directions on how to get to the club on their website (www.iossc.org.uk)
looking forward to seeing you all at the weekend.
-
Thanks for that Si,
Due to a ridiculous stroke of luck, I can now make Sunday. See you all bright and early :)
-
Guys,
Bad news from me I'm afraid... I won't be able to make it due to obscene amounts of coursework to finish
Hope to see everyone for the next one
-

Great! Looking forward to it. See you tomorrow.
-
I can see you on the club webcam, so jealous!
-
Thanks for an awesome day Dean and Si. Could not be more knackered now.
Max. gust: 41 mph at 16:43
Great sail Graham. One I won't be forgetting in a while. :)
-
Another awesome Cherub sailing weekend. Definitely got the adrenaline hit I needed.
Special thanks go to ThorneySam for getting my arse back on dry land. What a ride!
-
Great weekend. Fantastic sailing, hospitality and, as always, company.
Huge thanks to Dean and Si and to Sheppey for looking after us so well.
-
Forgot how nice it was to take people who have never sailed a Cherub off the shore for a blast. Jo if you are reading this, at 11 you were a fantastic crew, thanks for coming out. Next time I'll find you a lighter person to sail with and let you drive. Memory of the weekend was just how fun Loco is to sail. A couple more swimming sessions and Mr T. is going to be a handful for the 97 cup.
Thanks also to the rest of you for not minding that I kept slipping off for naps, although how you managed to drain the bar of Peroni and Becks whilst I was dozing on the sofas upstairs on Saturday night is still beyond me. Sheppy is definitely a place we should return to if invited.
-
Just a note of thanks for all who came. I had a great weekend and enjoyed sailing with different helms, although had a brilliant race on Sunday morning (thanks Paul) and a great slightly damp sail with Dan from IOSSC who now thoroughly understands what drives us, his words were" you and Dean are certifiable nutters with a brilliant boat" I will pass on your thanks to the club.
-
Mr T from A Team Loco here...(I've never been called Mr T before Born Slippy...I like it)
Awesome sail and Sam's first taste of big water.
Slippy you are an amazing asset to the class. Still can't decide whether to 97 or 05 it...T foil is next to sort out - see if it gives the stability edge we need (sound of water gurgling and Sam shouting 'Not again dad!')...it was falling out that finished me off (note to self...sort out toe-straps)
...and my inability to stay upright WILL NOT stop me thinking about tuning :)
Met some excellent people at Dean's party...particularly memorable (apart from his name) was the guy who drives military vehicles for a hobby.
Everyone was so helpful...even the coastguard who was very tolerant of me interrupting his (hands off) oversight of a fishing boat recovery with questions about how IOSSC deal with lost property...yes, the harness and buoyancy aid are Sam's (will PM you Simon)
We really look forward to seeing everybody again...Atum - keep posting your antics, Ronin - love the velcro kite sheet catchers (do they work?)
Es una pajera, es un avion? No, es Perro Loco
-
velcro kite sheet catchers, uh what????
-
PaulJ...I think a photo might be in order if that is possible
-
velcro kite sheet catchers, uh what????
The spinnaker sheet catchers are designed to keep the spinnaker sheets on the foredeck when going upwind. They are made from a short 20mm length of batten wrapped in the hook side of sticky velcro. They are positioned on the edge of the foredeck with the batten sticking up. The velcro came about because I didn't have any progrip at the time, but it works way better as it actually grips the sheets.
-
I LIKE IT
-
A big thank you to all, had an excellent time even though i did not get as much sailing as i would have liked to.
This made for a special birthday, once again THANK YOU :D
-
Sounds like Sunday was exciting!
Saturday was a great chance to be back in the saddle. Thanks to ThorneySam and Simon Jones for taking me for a burn!
-
Any good photos/video?
-
Could someone do a write for the front page so people know the fun we have saint these boats. With his if posss
-
Sorry, would do but am away for next few days and typing that much on my phone is likely to leave me bald, murderous or both
-
Hayley...have PM'd you a draft of an account ()for editing of Sunday. We could post it in members area for people to add Saturday and then someone could shorten it and produce a final edit for you to post.
I forgot my camera, so have no piccies.
-
Thanks Nigel, nice start. Don't know if Roland has found the video of born slippy yet
-
Look forward to that
-
