The one sailing event not to be missed in 2012 is the 50th Lord Birkett. This historic event will be launched with a big reception on the evening of Friday 6 July and there will be a number of other special surprises during the weekend.
All boats, from the smallest dinghies to high performance racing machines and cruisers, race from one spectacular mass start with the line stretching across the full width of the lake. They race down the lake, a distance of about seven miles, past Birkett Crag and the plaque to the memory of Lord Birkett who made the decision to stop the lake becoming a reservoir, round an island at the southern end, and back. Then they do it all again on Sunday – with both races to count.
KKT Racing will be there in the lean green racing machine. We'd love to see some of our Cherub buddies!

I've pencilled this in. Always fancied doing this as have been to the lake to deliver a boat and it looks spectacular!

Yep we will be in for this one unless the forecast is hopless for cherubbing. Done it a couple of times, great event.

So it's a long way to go for the weekend, but we are ooh-ing and ah-ing about this one. It's their 50th anniversary and could be quite a party...

good call. Will merge!

Entry limited - I think to 250. No need to rush but may be a little risky just turning up on the day - especially if you have driven up from the South. I suspect they will reach or get very close to that number. We are already entered in an either/or boat. Just going to select hitching up the cherub or 200 on the Friday depending on the forecast.

Sorry, I know it's a Northern event but afraid I can't make this one. I have a hot date in Hyde Park that weekend. With Rihanna.
