It's so that they can claim to have no knowledge of any defects that may or may not be obvious.

If so, it's analagous (technically it's homologous but that is another story) to mischievous outsourcing whereby the cash passes seamlessly from hand to hand but the responsibility is smeared out so thinly it disappears altogether. See Univ of Wales scandal for examples.

To really rub it in, the seller wants £15 quid!
